I think deep down he probably sees that the region he is in at Cookeville is almost insurmountable. But he has done a great job at Cookeville. He may even still live close to Smith County. Not sure about that however. Coach Maynord Is about 5 Minutes for Cookeville High School. Great situation is about to hang up his whistle in few years. Pizzpatriot2
He's done an outstanding job there. If he does leave to go back home, I wonder if they will be able to find/get someone to keep it going. I understand that they are not favorable on promotion from within if he leaves. Would love have Chuck or Jimmy........but don't believe it . But a phone call don't cost anything. Hackett at Watertown - Brady at Lebanon - Dyer at TC - Shoulders at MC - Jackson at Oakland - Shoulders at MC - Loftis at (JC I think) all would be on my list. cbg
As a head coach why would anyone want to move down in classification unless you are in a horrible situation or you are going to be given a pay increase of around 25%? Any coach worth their salt wants to coach against the very best teams available. There is no fun or challenge in beating most every team on the schedule by 35+ points. WHat is the difference in Classification have to do with it? South Pittsburg v Whitwell or Coalfield v Greenback is the exact same as Maryville v Oakland. It is very good football players playing against very good football players. Also great coaching. Sometimes, the small school atmosphere is better than the big city lights. When Coalfield goes to Greenback tonite, someone in Coalfield will be responsible for turning out the lights in the town on their way out because Coalfield will be a ghost town from 6 pm until..........
