McConnell comes back to town

Words for the bottom of the McConnell statue unveiling tonight at Waverly: "Matt McConnell - captain of the 1997 CAMDEN CENTRAL team, learned coaching at LEWIS CO., restored Waverly to its glory days of Coach Hampton in one year. Sorely missed in Waverly. Gone but never forgotten."

I was told from a reliable source in Waverly that they were renaming the football stadium after McConnell tonight for the success that he had over the past few years... Supposedly, this is why this game was scheduled. Anyone else heard this?

I can confirm both of these posts are 100% accurate. Glad to see a community honor my good friend Matt McConnell. Proud of the Waverly community for their support in donating their tax dollars to the go fund me account set up for this. I was more than willingly to donate my fair share to make this happen!

Yup. 5 years. 5 Camden wins. 5 playoff appearances. 4 Region Titles. 2 semi final appearances. 2 Mr. Football Candidates. 1 Mr Football Winner. AND 0 State Championships.

We definitely don't have to worry about Waverly breaking that state championship streak anytime soon. They got rid of the guy who could have made it happen. Sad.
