I personally find it interesting that high school football coaches are taking the same path as college football coaches... Without the comma's of course.

Programs that are truly committed to winning can buy themselves a championship.

Don't believe me? Ask Peabody. Haney is a football guy and the head man over there. He has rolled out the red carpet for his football coaches and it has resulted in gold balls.....

Coaching is not everything..... It really is not... It is the ONLY thing.

The same coaches win every single year.

The same coaches lose every single year.

If you want to be a winner you have a winner as a coach.  Even if you have pay them....

I keep telling everyone pretty much the same thing. Only twist that I put on it is "I'd rather hire potential than mediocre"... a young guy with his ducks in a row that hasn't had his shot yet is more attractive than an established coach that just wins enough to keep a job in my eyes. Hire a 7-3/6-4  coach and that's what you'll always be.

Josh Puckett... but don't tell the Lake County fans yet....

That's the splash hire as well in my opinion.  I also believe Matt McConnell would be a great hire as well if they could lure him from Martin.  Derek Rang at Gatlinburg-Pittman and Josh Wolfe at West Carroll are possibilities as well.  The final possibility is a head coach at a 6A powerhouse who could want to return to West-TN.

I agree, all would be great in Milan, especially with the revolving door of athletes Milan produces. However, If I had to make a pick it would be Puckett. He's great in the weight room and even better developing talent.  Rang would be great as well but not sure if he'd leave GP, heard he flirted with the Martin job last year but declined after a GP pay increase. Milan is probably a better job than Martin due to more athletes but I doubt McConnell would leave after just one year and leave his star QB behind. I think Wolfe is from Camden and probably headed that direction, I hear they are willing to pay but then again Milan is the better job.

It's all about the athletes, simple as that. And Milan typically has the athletes. A great coach is only as good as the ability they have to implement any development. A great coach will not win with subpar athletes however a not so great  or LESS than great coach can definitely lose or under achieve with  great athletes.

And as far as former great players being top coaches, that's a misnomer and most often not the case. Just think of your own personal experiences regardless of any sport or activity> Typically the best athlete or players whether it's on the playground, court, field or even recess, are not the one's you'd want making decisions, developing protocol, leading or basic intellectual input. Great players don't often make great coaches. For many reasons

But in the rare instance you find a guy that was a great player AND a great coach with lots of experience it’s worth pursuing.

This will likely change if the TSSAA follows through with the potential plan to go back to 5 classifications.  They may then be one of the larger schools in 2A and Milan will miraculously return to their winning ways as the level of competition drops to schools more their size.

They still got to deal with Trenton and Huntingdon Im sure

I will say this....  I will be highly surprised if anyone mentioned on this thread becomes the coach. When it’s all over and done I think it will be someone not on yalls radar.

What would give you that idea???

HAHA!

We both know whats up.

When does the cat get let out of the bag?

Extremely low teacher pay. Even if they get a huge coachmen’s my supplement the vast difference in base pay negates it. By the way. Heard a little rumor today’s out the future of your program. Can’t say on here. But when spring practice arrives look back on this post. Maybe sooner....

Thought you were continuing the TT speculation with this MS scenario...my understanding is that your man has already placed that call...I cannot tell you anything other than that...

as far as the future of our particular program...I believe I’m on the same page as yourself when it comes to a past returning...I still wanna see who all applies though

my bias...personal opinion...Liberty should have played in the last 2 Semis, winning at least 1...we had the dudes...if we get the right leader...2 years

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
