Hard to believe in two weeks another season will be over and we'll all know who the new champions will be. 90% of the teams have moved onto basketball season and we're still playing at this time for the 20th straight year. A lot of people that are on the outside that don't know this program take pot shots to soothe their misunderstandings and say stuff out of ignorance to feel better. I'm surprised someone from the other thread hasn't mentioned the gated area near gate 10 has a statue of General Lee on his horse or the old wing of the high school was actually a Confederate Hospital during the Civil War but we still have the rest of the week for that one to show up. Also Jefferson Davis lived in a small house on the corner of West Broadway and S.Magnolia Street that still stands and has been converted into a barber shop since 1958 and still going strong. Actually we're all very blessed and very thankful to the ones that like to throw rocks at glass houses. Now we're down to the final four and I can't ever recall long as I've been watching this that this one may be the best four of all time to show up in the same year. I expect a jam packed house this Friday so better come early.

I think if you have any kind of interaction with Maryville, you can't help but be impressed. It's an amazing place to watch a game, like straight out of a movie. I've never left a game at Maryville and felt upset, regardless of the outcome. The play a style of football that is so clean and fundamentally sound that it requires you to be at your best to be in contention and even that isn't enough sometimes.

Maryville isn't the most talented, or most athletic, etc etc but they have a entire roster of kids dreaming since they could walk of winning a state title. In developing their players, they're not doing anything innovative, but it takes time and 100% commitment. You can see alot of Maryville's influence in the way Oakland has built their programs from the feeder schools on up.

The Maryville folk I've talked to over the years on average have a better grasp of HS football across the state than most fans, not just games involving the Rebels. Every program/school has things you could nitpick at, but when you combine all these things you can't help but marvel at the way Maryville operates

Bill Belichick says, "It's not the best 53, rather the right 53".

Maryville is ranked #1 in the state, #1 in 6A, and 165 in the nation.

Oakland is ranked #1 in the state, #1 in 6A and # 18 in the nation. Not sure where your rankings are coming from...

Look up top 100 high school football teams in the nation.

High School Football America has Oakland at Number 18 and Maryville at #69.

    • With Westview only losing one senior and returning Sims, they have to be one of the favorites in AA
    • Watched Westview at McKenzie Thursday and they surprised me. Without Evans (who was sick) and Brent (who had thumb surgery shortly after getting back from her ankle injury), they looked solid. I didn’t realize Gray from SF had transferred in. You have Sims, Gray, Brent, Trevathan, and Evans and that’s a solid 5. Then, you bring in Hayden and Rogers off the bench along with some other upcoming and they will be tough again this year!
    • Hmmmmmm doe dee doe doe……sounds like they are leaving Geenback faster than the lawnmower will go in fifth gear.  Hmmmm….. you can bet the lawnmower on that.
    • West looked solid...excited to see this young group excel
    • When you have a school that right at 200 kids only half are going to be male and to get 25% of them to come out for football is a very hard task. Take away an 8th grade syatem and your you have another hill to climb up. If 5 kids are actually leaving your not going to have enough for practice. Your only chances for wins would be against the weakest of weak teams. At one time Greenback had kids coming across the wall like the Mexican Border and now their leaving town before sundown. A hugh mistake was made on not hiring Ryan back because of his ties to the community and his ability to bring in the right kids, not run them off. The last coach failed because he wasn't one of community so they go out and do it again. I'm sure Coach Clemmer is a good person because I do know people that do like him but he is caught in the middle of a fan base that will not support him no matter what and it could lead to a disaster if that many kids are leaving the program. The person that caused all of this mess has no business on the school board and needs to stick with hiding in the bushes giving out speeding tickets to out of towners coming through.
