Good chance OR goes to 6A. They are sitting right at the cut-off.

Based on numbers, AC may be moving back up to 5A. McMinn County and Ooltewah look like they are moving back to 5A as well.

They must of added teams to 6a last time.At one time did they only have 32 6a teams or was they thinking about that.

That was part of the Z-plan, back when all 32 6A teams made the playoffs. TSSAA dumped that back in 2017.

I thought I remembered 32.That would be something if Oak Ridge got stuck with schools that much bigger than them over having 2 more students than couple of others schools.Do they put 50 in 6a and work their way down or how do they decide how big each class is

They split the classes evenly, initially. There were 298 D1 schools last time, so that split the classes in ~49-50 each. Then you'll have schools that will opt to play up, like Gibbs, Fulton, Carter, and Seymour in this last reclassification period.

50 is probably a good guess at this point. Which puts OR right on the bubble (50th).

Ok thanks for info. Some of these 6a schools are so big they need to make it where u have to have like 1750 or more to be 6a.Heck I think I seen one school with 2,700.1,000 more students would be like Oak Ridge playing single or 2a

I scrubbed the data TSSAA provided, and it looks like there are 300 D1 schools by my count. That would make OR #50, which puts them in 6A.  Here are some interesting notes, if that number is correct:

  • Other teams moving up to 6A - Gallatin, Beech, Mo East, West Creek, Summit, Shelbyville, Clarksville
  • Potential Region 1-6A - DB, Science Hill, Jeff Co, Mo East, Bearden, Farragut, HVA
  • Potential Region 2-6A - Cleveland, Maryville, William Blount, Bradley, OR
    • To even the numbers up, I wouldn't be surprised if Farragut was moved to Region 2
  • Teams moving down to 5A - Mo West, McMinn, Heritage, Ooltewah, Wilson Central, Station Camp, Mt. Juliet, Memphis Central
  • Teams moving up to 5A - Tullahoma, AC, Portland, White Co, Spring Hill, West Ridge (new school), Springfield, Nolensville, Howard
  • Other changes of interest - South Doyle (down to 4A), Soddy Daisy (down to 4A), Union Co (down to 3A)
    • Could see Fulton, Carter, Gibbs, and Seymour all opt to play 4A ball, now that SD's enrollment has dropped. Tough to predict 5A (and 4A) regions in the Knox area until those schools decide whether to play up or not.

I don't think it would be good for OR to be one of the smallest 6A schools in the state. The talent level is less than West and Powell, and they are 5A. I would hope that OR ends up a large 5A, but we will find out soo, I guess. Exactly when do we find out?

Should be mid-November.

OR wouldn't have a choice.   Its based off of enrollment size.  Only choice a school can have is if they want to play up like Fulton does.  Fulton enrolment size (if I am not mistaken) is that of a 4a school, but they choose to play 5a.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
