How you can read post one and compose post two is beyond me... I have been frustrated by people taking my intent and twisting it to mean something entirely different, but this takes the proverbial cake.

Very easily because he made a point that actually supports my argument and not his.

Guess what? People can have differing opinions on topics. It is okay. Much like the rest of the world, this board has many posters that do not have the desire or ability to hear another.

Penalizing the whole state just because a few have chosen not to start up is really irrational and unreasonable thinking.  It just makes little sense.

The playing field will never be level.  Those districts whose powers that be aren't going to go with the waiver are likely not providing opportunity in other ways that allow programs to flourish.

Sports aren't socialist.  There are winners and losers in every single contest.

THIS!!!

Also I don't fault Clarksville-Montgomery Schools for their decision as a large number of athletes have parents that work at Fort Campbell and the DoD has suggested they hold off on starting larger gatherings until at least July. To me that carries some weight so to insinuate these districts are doing their athletes a disservice is not seeing the 30,000 foot view.

Well maybe they should change their decision. Is anyone really worried about social distancing anymore these days?! Watched the news lately? Massive rallies and marches followed by looting, rioting, and arson with people crammed on top of people all over the country! Social distancing is obviously not a thing. It was banged into our heads over and over, and then, all of a sudden, nothing! No more enforcement or control. It’s over. We need leaders who make rational common sense decisions moving forward. The fear and panic needs to end. Let’s all be safe and smart, and live life!

No, I haven't.

But I haven't asked anybody about them, either.  I'm not big on passing leagues.  Understand why teams do them, but it's not the football I enjoy watching.

It is not real football no doubt.  I usually enjoy the precursor to the actual season.  It helps when breaking in a new QB.

Yep.  Like I said, I understand why they do them.  Just don't find it particularly interesting to watch.

Seems to me that a good solution might be to allow each athlete one week of the dead period, and they can choose which week.  Coaches still get a full extra week with the team and long-planned vacations don't have to be blown up.  Kids who might benefit from more attention/smaller groups get a little dose of that as well.

Imagine there are too many moving parts for that to be considered, but it might be a good option if it could reasonably be implemented.

No big deal. I've spent my whole life arguing with strangers on the internet. Nothing surprises me anymore. I must be jaded. :)

I just thought you made all the obvious points well enough without writing a book for most reasonable folks to agree with. I'm not "thick" enough to think that he misunderstood your meaning, just that I couldn't wrap my head around his using the same set of circumstances and scenarios to make a counterpoint.

I will try again.

Most players have spent their days since mid March on a couch in front of a playstation eating junk food. They have not done any workouts. If they don't go back to the team until July 6th and start conditioning on humid 90 degree days. Some will be hospitalized and we may have some fatalities. It will of course be blamed on the virus or the coach.

Some head coaches have not had the opportunity to introduce themselves in person to their teams yet. If they cant start until July 6 with players who haven't broken a sweat since March that will be a recipe for disaster. They will have out of shape players who have no idea what plays to run with 2.5-3 weeks before their first scheduled scrimmage. There's not enough practice time to condition, acclimate, and  prepare a team.

This has been an exceptional spring. Some players just missed their junior or senior baseball seasons.  Most everyone - coaches, players, and parents -have had time off. These kids need to get back to normal ASAP. Voluntary team workouts during the last week of June and first week of July should be left up to each individual coach to decide if his team needs the work or the time off. As @tradertwohas pointed out before TSSAA dropped the ball and left May/ June up to each individual program they need to remain consistent and do the same until regular practice starts.
