Wow...gotta disagree here...I have seen quite a few highly successful high schools use the 3-4 defense. Now you might not have the right personnel to run it sometimes but as a scheme it is tried and true at every level.

When you ain’t got the subs it wears your linemen down that play both ways in a game

You got to have more than 3 good linemen and plus your main defense linemen don’t need to be on the offensive line it’s hard to have that in high school

It requires 3 defensive linemen. Generally DTs play a 4 technique and NT a 0. If you a referencing OLBs (DE) they are definitely not linemen types in today’s 3-4. They are almost always backs and TE’s on offense. The 4-3, which almost no one implements anymore, would require more lineman type bodies. And you better have beasts at the 3 and 1.

Virtually any scheme can be successful with the right personnel and if it is coached right.

True but when you keep them in with little breaks big boys get tried. I know it’s the fight in the dog but sometimes the dog gets tried getting double teamed when they don’t sub like they should

I know a 3-4 defense you can put more speed on the field but sometimes 140 to 160 pounds kids don’t like getting run over by a 200+ running back.

So you’re saying a 3-4 doesn’t have enough linemen? Absolutely no one plays big kids that can’t run at the OLB position anymore. At least anyone that is decent on defense. It makes it impossible to make adjustments against teams that bounce back and forth between tight sets and spread sets. I’m not clear on what you’re issue with the defense is.

Bushog man you better have more than three boys on that Davis boy.  That Childress man reversed his decision after you jailhouse fellars tried to get him not eligible.  I saw him earlier and he was chewing on rusty nails.  He is real mad.  You think im joking but im not.

If you have the personal it works great,if you dont have 3 studs up front and adequate LBs it is not.For small schools it's usually not very effective. For us small schools you have 1 or the other and the 4 man front is usually a better way to go to hide a weakness. We (Greenback) went to a 3-4/5 this past year because of not enough linemen.Covid and the Jeffries kid going to Alcoa cut us thin.It worked decent but the four and five front won out later in the year when we got healthy.

Glad he got to play he’s senior year. Should punish a kid over adults being stupid
