George Quarles and it is not really close. Give Rankin his due, but George was unmatched when the game was on the line and you need a play to win the game.

Best post yet! My thoughts, for whatever it’s worth, you couldn’t go wrong with either of these gentlemen. As I said earlier, while Rankin did walk into a gold mine at Alcoa, he built Smith Co. and Riverdale, basically from scratch. Both have amazing records, and, after his first season, George never again lost prior to the semifinals. I would give almost anything to see what both men could do coaching in Georgia. Thanks for participating. My final thoughts on this subject.

Well, he did lose one time to Morristown West in the regular season (which is before the semis) and stillwon the title. We won't be too hard on you though ;)

Correct. I was referring to playoffs only, although I didn’t make that clear. If memory serves that was in 2001 and they avenged the loss in the playoffs.

I follow Ga Hs football allot. If you look at the history down there it’s the same teams that typically win every year the same as in Tennessee. Now the Georgia schools typically don’t win back to back to back state championships but they’re always competing every year-  example Valdosta Grayson Colquitt Tucker Rome Cartersville Lowndes- the parity is better because there are so many good players everywhere that move to competing schools

in Tn there are about 10-15 schools far above everyone else and in Ga that number is about 50ish schools

If either one of these guys were to coach down there at the right school/area they would win. Heck I could have coached Grayson and win every game last yr with there talent

 what’s your thoughts

    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
    • You really mean the Price twin boys and Lyin Larry.
