I've asked the same question without getting any answers.

And what most don't seem to understand that recruiting and playing an ineligible student are 2 totally different things.

They're both against the rules.  But proving an inelligble player is much easier than proving recruiting.

No subject gets the dander flying (whatever that means) like "RECRUITING".

So here's the challenge I'm laying out to you guys.   Can anyone give empirical evidence of recruiting violations?   Not opinions, theories, guesses, I mean proof that we can all go out and see for ourselves.

I don’t really think any public schools have ever been “caught” at recruiting. Lots have been accused but from what I’ve seen, most that get accused play within the gray area to gain a competitive advantage. Usually happens in open zoned districts, which most districts are now, and districts that have county and city systems operating in them. Now do I think it happens indirectly, yes, but very hard to prove unless caught red-handed. I am however very surprised that someone hasn’t got caught in today’s times with camera phones and txt messaging.

I'm not sure you have any idea what you're talking about...

Powell had to forfeit 6 of their games in 2018 for playing ineligible player(s) that Matt Lowe recruited. This was well documented at the time. He is still one of the absolute worst in the East TN area for recruiting.

I can't speak on the private schools, but most of these instances by public schools were acts of ignorance. In Oakland's case, a former assistant that couldn't keep his trap shut on social media. The punishments by the TSSAA reflect that. As far as I know, Giles Co is the only repeat offender.

As HTV said, there's a difference between intentionally recruiting a player and a student athlete that happens to be ineligible.

This isn't new that Powell has recruited players. Clark put down the foundation with his middle school handler who pulled from Central, West, Fulton and surrounding areas in the 90's. Hard to find a program that has not recruited in recent years that is why AD's like Jody Wright or even Clark now won't go after other schools because of their own closet being exposed.

So does the TSSAA say publicly that recruiting will be dealt with just to make themselves look good, and then turn a blind eye to it?       Or are all the rumors of recruiting violations just that.... rumors?             What I was hoping to see in this thread is some EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE, not vague references to "this school or that school has been recruiting for years..."

So how about it sports fans..... PROOF or RUMORS?

    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
