GCPioneer
The same referee that made terrible calls in yesterday's game is making terrible calls again in Fayette Ware-Creek Wood.... maybe this guy is not up to par to referee a state tournament game. Is there a standard for that?
option76
I watched the replay you can see her jump up say that’s a foul and then say something else that got the coaches attention as well. I will give the coach credit he immediately started talking to the player. Would be interesting to know what the second comment was.

There is NO way I would sign my name and pay my money to officiate. Y’all talk about tssaa needs to address officials getting emotional. Step back and take a look at yourselves. I love the game, I go watch games with no ties to anyone! A lot of times I just stand up. Dont even like sitting in the crowd anymore. You people want to jump on the officials for getting emotional, go back and watch the video of your crowds.. Good lord!! I get it, there are bad calls, BUT there are always more good calls than bad usually. I’ve watched parents storm down steps to the bottom acting like FOOLS, yet y’all want to place blame on the only people who are brave enough to get out there and allow your kids to play the game. So let’s talk about some emotion. I keep hearing they are short, y’all go sign up! Do better! I, likewise, go to the games without having players on the floor. Our local papers have occasional letters to the Editor with the same people complaining about everything imaginable. Why don't these same people run for elected office and get their feet wet? Same with referees. If things are desperately in need of improvement, certain people need to find a uniform that fits and work for the 50 or 100 bucks a game and enhance everyone else's life with their great knowledge and infallibility. It's human nature to complain when things are perceived being wrong, but a little bit goes a long way.

TSSAA makes enough $ to properly train & pay referees; however, that cuts into their monstrous profits, so they would rather have mostly shotty refs. I agree, people should keep their composure better at times, but sports is about competition, and to be super competitive comes with emotion. Refs realize that when they sign up. Regardless of how hard or stressful their job is, they're not allowed to let emotion or allegiances affect their decisions. I've coached, refereed, and been a fan, so I'm well aware of the stress & pressure, but that doesn't displace the fact that referees can't allow emotions to affect their decisions on the court. Ref yesterday got emotionally involved in the game and it was about him instead of the girls. Girls didn’t decide it. They did. Sad deal because it overshadowed a classic game. Both teams played well enough to win. Let the players decide it. Edited March 9, 2022 by pioneer42

I'm familiar with your posts and the posts made by the other person from Gibson County. The only complaint I've had prior to and after yesterday's game is that one of you (I could look it up) continually misspells GreenEville. That's how much of a good opinion I have had of both of you. You are knowledgeable and I seldom miss your posts. I understand your complaint about the call, but fair-minded people withhold judgment until all the facts are presented. Will this happen? Maybe. You lost me with the name-calling and persistence that is not really necessary. We know how you feel.

I have been to games all over this state and girls yell and cheer and get emotional and holler foul. Part of the game. Name calling comes about when posters get on here acting like that it is acceptable and OK especially after they won the game. It is not OK. I often wonder when, before a game, the head official pow wows with the team captains what they talk about. I would imagine that the ref talks about do's and don'ts while the game is in progress, but now I'm wondering if the discussion would include rules that would apply to players on the sidelines. It would be interesting if anyone who has played and has been part of the pregame meeting at the center circle could give some insights on general things that are discussed. There are coaches and people who have coached who are members of Coach T that might want to contribute. Hashing things out here might be a way of creating better communication. We could even start a different thread. Edited March 9, 2022 by Americal198

I assume that we all like to think that we're more objective than the masses...I know that I do, and can affirm that you don't routinely call out the officials. I understand that they're human, that they miss things that I sometimes see, and that they see some things that I miss as well, so I don't bash them for bang-bang maybe this happened, maybe it didn't calls...what really gets under my skin is when it's not about human error or judgement, but when it's calculated. Both the calls that you are having a hard time accepting aren't subject to giving benefit of doubt, they're either a don't know the rules thing or an ego trip on the tech. Neither are acceptable. For those of you who think that I'm siding with anyone, or biased in who I pull for...I was rooting for the Lady Pioneers at the beginning, and thought that they would eventually pull out to an 8-10 point lead by the end of the game, but I'm also a history buff and know everything there is about the founder of York Institute. They are one of my favorite teams in the state, and AY is one of my personal heroes for what he believed, what he did, and what he thought about "selling out" for money. I can tell you that by the end of the game I was rooting for York, because of who they are and because of the point guard's effort and mentality...she has the heart of a lion, a motor that won't quit, exceptional skills and vision, and it was plain that she would not accept losing under any circumstance. It sure would have been nice to see how it played out without interference.
Greenfieldfan
Maybe we need to close this thread, don’t forget It’s just a game. Refs miss calls you live with it and learn from it. I hate it for GC because I was for GC but things happen in life. GC will be back. Edited March 9, 2022 by Greenfieldfan
