I think out of the East side the two odds on favorites will be Powell and West. Powell returns so much talent and will probably go back to back. West has the athletes to compete with Powell and will challenge them for sure.

As far as dark horses go, Knox Central, Oak Ridge and Rhea would be the 3 I would keep an eye on. I like what I’m seeing at Oak Ridge. They have the talent to make some waves this year. You just can’t count out Central it’s seems like they are a threat every year for a while now. Rhea lost a lot on defense and and the O-line but even with that said they will have one of the best offensive back fields around.

Other teams that I think will have good seasons Karns, Seiver Co David Crockett and McMinn Co

Mount Juliet has 5-6 D1 offers on the table including QB with offers from Army and Navy, LB committed to Vandy, OL committed to Tennessee, the number one punter in the state, and a 6’5 Sophomore QB getting D1 looks already.

With that being said coaching has to be more effective this year. The skill is there, the talent is there, no reason MJ shouldn’t be a top 5 team this year.

I see Central taking a step back.  The talent being attracted to Central has been in a steady decline since Bryson left.  And in spite of what some will try go tell you they have relied on transfers and out of zone kids during the chamionship run they have had.

I also see Oak Ridge taking a step forward.  Scott is a much better coach than most give him credit for being and he has brought in some really good assistants.

I'm curious when Scott was at Cleveland did they let him bring in who he wanted or just hope he could turn the program around by his name alone or just to far from home and he wasn't able to do the things he did at West?

No one can convince me this individual doesn’t have a chip on his shoulder. My god old man give it a rest. And for the record, we won those Championships because everyone loved each other and didn’t want to let each other down, but believe what you want.

Mr. Barney I’ve LONG been gone from Cleveland, but from what I was told it just wasn’t a good fit. I’ll tell you a secret about Cleveland; all of the success they have had, even under Benny Monroe, came when they were playing in the next to the highest classification in the state, not the highest, where they will be from now on. Our 3 straight titles were won at 4A, even the 1982 state runner-up team was when they got to drop to AA for a couple of years. Once they returned to AAA, even with a great coach like Benny, they only advanced to Round 3 once. That was in 1985 when they lost to Jefferson Co. during their heyday. Anyway, until they can stop the best athletes from choosing Bradley Central, it wouldn’t matter if Nick Saban was their coach.

I think this is correct.  Sometimes it's just not a good fit.

Don't think it was entirely either's fault, but in talking to some folks - some of them directly involved - communication wasn't great and some things that were expected never did fully come to fruition.

Sometimes it's just not meant to be, and as the saying goes, be careful what you wish for because sometimes you might just get it.

Agreed about Coach Cummings. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t super excited when he took the job, but I do think he’s a great fit for OR at the right time. I really like the strength & conditioning coach he brought in. From my understanding, he’s one of the best around. Speaking of Central, were a lot of those kids on those great Helton teams OOZ kids? I’ve always heard quite a bit of them were. Not trying to cause a ruckus, just curious.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
