There is such thing as an option offense. I always considered SGC offense under Stidham an option offense. There is a difference.

I do not care to explain all of the differences to the untrained eye here, but the basic principle is in the option, when a play is called, the coach has no idea who is going to carry the ball. SG ran the triple option for years under Stidham. When the ball was snapped 3 different people could be the ball carrier. It could be the fullback up the middle, the QB keep, or a pitch to the outside. In the wing T, when the coach calls the play, he knows exactly where the ball is going and who is going to carry it. You can run the option out of the spread if lined it up correctly I guess.

True, film shows SG still had the capability to run it out of the new spread look so i wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some this week

That’s it. Option is usually dive, belly or stretch and occasional pass when you get the defensive back peeking .

They say that the “early bird gets the worm”. On the other hand, that means that the early worm gets eaten. Just couldn’t resist sharing that bit of knowledge with you. You know I’m pulling for y’all in this game, too. It’s only two weeks til y’all come to Covington. Last poll I saw had y’all at #3 in 4A, and us at #3 in 3A. We already lost that opener to Munford, but I want y’all to come in undefeated. From what I saw Thursday night, the Tomcats will be heavily favored vs. SGC. See ya on 9/21.
