IncognitoCamper
Both of those are solid names but don’t be surprised if it is Joe Osovet

But the real question is have they found their niche doing it in the dark rather than out in the open?
BeardenBullies
Jones is not leaving Bearden, to many kids have already committed to him, he cant leave. If Lowe leaves Pal, Bearden gets stronger by Christmas. If its Nix at alcoa, defense is instantly better. Catholic is a dead end job now in D2 AAA. Facilities are below avg, no dorms, not even getting the best kids in knoxville. they need a big name hire or a college coach to come in and hire a strong staff with a history of recruiting and coaching. Dilfer has proven it can be done quick if admin gives total control. im not sure that can happen with catholic church.

MikeSmith
Catholic is trending towards hiring Steve Matthews again. He has already reached out to other coaches to gauge interest in joining him at Catholic. Over the last year, Sompayrac has long been fascinated with bringing Matthews back in different roles. It will be interesting to see the backlash that comes with hiring Matthews. People in the school (not involved with the decision-making) see how bad of a look this will be for Catholic. It will not be a surprise to many in the Catholic community, if Matthews is hired back.
BarneySox2007
Matthews made a mistake, who hasn't. Time to forget and move on. The man is a good coach. 1
IrishDad2
Anyone that knows Steve Matthews knows he is EXACTLY what these kids need. Steve will provide clear leadership and turn that program around quickly. His former players still talk about what he meant to them. I also know first hand how he has still reached out to his former players even though he wasn’t coaching the past two years to see if he could help them with anything. Catholic would be smart to bring him back if he would be interested in coming back. NO ONE cares about his kids more than Steve Matthews!
MikeSmith
You may be right, I do not know Steve on a personal level. I do know in talking to other coaches in the D2 III conference, that they did not have much respect for his coaching when he left. Catholics defense was terrible under the last regime and was just as bad under Matthews. He is not out-coaching the guys in that region at: Baylor, McCallie, MBA, BA, and Lipscomb. Tempo and a jet series is not enough in that league. He's the worst coach out of that bunch. His best chance is to be a great recruiter and go get the kids in Knoxville that Mobbs did not get. The reason he was able to win 2 championships at Catholic was because he had much more talent than the public schools in 4a but they still lost to Soddy Daisy under Matthews. So only time will tell. Tough job for anyone in that league.
chs1984
No dog in this, but it will be tough for Catholic to build a program to compete with the teams they now must play, no matter who is coach.
cbg
IMO you are not going to “out coach” the top teams in D2AAA as all of the teams have good coaching staffs. Another major issue is that you will play a good team most every week.
