Spot on , additionally if he holds in 7th or 8th with a beneficial birthday that Swipes stated above he still has to sit his 8th grade year or his freshman year in TN. Athlete has 12 semesters of eligibility from 7-12 in TN. Most sit 8th grade.

If your kid plays one snap as 8th grader on varsity team, they are under same rules as a 9-12 grader on transfer eligibility.

Actually it is not false attached is from the TSSAA Handbook (starts at page 14).  It talks about being in 8th grade like your'e talking about and under the same roof but what I stated of you have 8 semesters once you start 9th grade is correct and you cannot turn 19 on or before Aug 1st no matter how many times you are held back.  If the player in Question is in 8th grade but does not have a Varsity Record  and repeating the eighth grade they shall not be eligible for high school participation during the year that the student is repeating the eighth grade but that does not start his 8 semester clause starting in enrolling in 9th grade. He can sit out sports in 6-8th grade and still play in 9th or he can play in 6-8th grade but sit out in 9th when repeating grades 6-8.
