Shot clock in state

We can't even get the regular clock operators to do it right. Clock is not needed!

Shot clock is absolutely needed in high school basketball. Without it, makes it darn near impossible to overcome double digit deficits. Sitting on the ball on offense for multiple minutes does not help the game, nor these players who want to play at the next level.

Completely agree

That would put a lot of stress on the REFS.  The schools would need to pay for a ECO just like they do in high school football.   I think it is a great idea but there are a lot of logistical things to consider and obstacles to overcome.   It would also have to be state-wide which could put a burden on some of our rural counties to implement when it comes to budgets.   I am all for it but it would take quite a bit of work and a lot of commitment from lots of areas throughout the state.

It definitely won't be easy to implement. Probably a big reason for the initial discussion regarding feasibility. I do think it's needed, but as you said, it's going to take a lot of work to make it happen

I've said for several years it would be a good thing for high school basketball. There will be obstacles to overcome as has been stated. I do think over all if is good for the game. In rural areas where schools of significant enrollment differences play each other maybe not. Holding the ball can be an equalizer at times. It has already been approved at the national level just not forced to implement. Additional personal as well as cost to make it work. Yars ago the 3 point lines was to be the ruination of high basketball. I think it has survived just fine.

About 1% go on to play at the "next level". Terrible argument there.

Is a shot clock needed? Maybe, but it will probably only go off 2-3 times per game and that is because a shot airballed so it didn't reset. One high school game in a thousand these days has any type of "stall". Games played literally 5 nights a week and you might see one that was an actual stall tactic. Low scoring games now are usually the result of terrible shooting and/or shot selection. No fundamentals being taught just jack it up however you can get it up there and maybe you make one.

The game has lost its way.

Like it don't like it. Doesn't really matter it's coming all that is to figure out is when. It's only a matter of time.

May 13, 2021 The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has approved a 35-second shot clock for high school basketball, starting with the 2022-23 season. The NFHS released a statement on Wednesday, making it clear that the use of a shot clock will not be a mandate.

If implemented, the governing body needs to be the one to fit the bill.  I am sick and tired of getting stuck with the bill.  Also, their needs to be an official who works the clock.  Don't have to pay them what a regular official might make, but something.  This should also be paid from the TSSAA.

    • Playing high school sports is a privilege not a right.  The college did not have to rescind the scholarship.  Scholarship offers are pulled all the time for a number of reasons. That was 100% their choice.  A coach can keep, cut, or dismiss any player that they want to without reason anytime they want.  Is that the right way to run a program?? I don't think that it is, but these are the facts of the matter. This case has absolutely 0% chance of going in the plaintiff's favor. Futhermore, I'd imagine that these administrators and the coach are a part of some teaching or coaching organization that will cover at least 1 million dollars each in legal fees. Obviously the kid and her family feel like there were "damages" thus the lawsuit.  Unfortunately, the law is not on their side in this case.
    • Maryville will recapture the loses from last year against West, Bradley and Farragut. The Bearden game will be the tough one but I look for the wheels to come off that ride somewhere down the road because of all the crap that goes on there. I know to many parents there and some of the things I've been told and some of the post a few of them have made on facebook. They all can't be liars.
    • If Heritage moves down and Alcoa moves up the best thing for Heritage is to do what William Blount did when theystopped playing Maryville or meet certain defeat. Honestly can't see Alcoa not moving up the way the county is growing. Might be in the Mountaineers best interest to stay in 5A because none of those teams on their schedule are anything close to Alcoa.
    • I say over as well. Barney, regarding the move to 4A, will the cross-town blowhards move up as well??
