Not for long….

When are interviews for East?  Being the first Metro school to get field turf may attract a quality coach/staff. Hope the Principal will allow the HC to bring in teachers/coaches inside the building to build repour with the kids. If she doesn't, the coach will get fed up and leave at the first opportunity. Many of these Principals simply don't get it and expect the HC to produce miracles. Makes what Stewart did there even more impressive.

That I’m not 100% sure when. I just know a few people have put their names in. Also as far as turf they’re doing three schools at a time. Starting with the most used fields. I was naïve to the fact that most of the metro coaches are not in the buildings. I was only assuming since most of our coaches are.

It is becoming less and less common. These principals would rather have a numeracy coach, a literay coach, and a few more positions that do VERY little work yet take up a budget position. MOst metro head coaches are lucky to have 3 coaches in the building. East doesn't even have one basketball coach that teaches there. Can't keep that up for long.

Some of these names that have submitted applications would surprise people. There are some good outside names in the hat including some very close to the program currently. I am Captain Guru and I approve this message.

Do you think the hire will happen prior to spring ball?

Not having coaches in the building is ridiculous. That shows a lack of support . They help facilitate the school .Cane Ridge principal gets it . East new principal came from a elementary school so I'm not shocked with her lack of support. Stewart leaving was a big loss for the program. How do you even let that happen?

East Nashville's principal has been at East in the past. She also has an AP, Olige, that has been at the hs level for several years. This is a metro problem. JS should know this better than anyone. For a few years he was a teacher at Overton while he coached at Hillsboro.

Easy fix, coach where you teach. If you don't have enough teaching spots available, reach out to your feeder schools for positions.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
