Best HS defensive season ever?

Always hear a lot about the best teams and best offenses/players. What squad had the best defense?

Cornersville 2018 squad had 11 shutouts in a row and only giving up an average of 4 points a game for the year. Pretty remarkable.

One that doesn't get mentioned enough because of their explosive offense..

2016 Dresden had a great defense especially in crunch time. They didn't allow a single point in the second half of playoff games

Sweetwater won back to back Class A titles it 1971 and 1972 giving up 38 and 57 points respectively.  42 if those points in the 72 season were to a regular season 42 - 21 loss to South Pittsburg.  It was hard to make the playoffs in those days.  SP went 9 - 1 - 1 that year with the only loss to Bridgeport, AL and and a tie with Jasper. They beat Ooltewah in the Dunlap Bowl.  SP didn't make the playoffs in 1971 with only a regular season loss to Sweetwater and a SP's  defense that gave up 38 points all year.

There was an Alcoa team in the late 2010’s that didn’t give up a point to a region opponent. It was ridiculous. @BCsportsfan

The 2017 Alcoa team out scored the regional opponents 247-34 in 6 games. 

Then.......The Defense steps it up in 2018, with the Team out scoring  the regional opponents a combine total, 299-8.               8 total points in 6 games.

In, 2019 the Alcoa Team out scored their regional opponents 305-0 in 6 games.

2020, 275-8.

2018 thru 2020.....879-16, Record against 3A regional opponents.

That was special to watch! The atmosphere and intensity of those games were incredible. Though the offense was great and putting up big numbers, watching and rooting for the shutouts to continue was more exciting!

First game was against community and it was 42-0 to start the 4th. They scored on our 3rd string kids. I count it for our starting defense, they were unbelievable.
 

The crazy part is no region opponent scored on us and we didn’t have defense of player of the year in the region. All the coaches that voted should be stripped of their voting rights.
