Well we had a half dozen starters decide not to play before the season ever started so I knew we would struggle.

There's just not that many kids up on the mtn,so you really can't afford to lose 1 or 2 starters, plus most of the people who move in are retired very few families moving in with kids, and it's not just roan mtn,it's up the creek and Hampton as well.i have to say and I hate to say it but for the past couple of years region 1 has to be the weakest in the state, there's no reason cloudland shouldn't win it every year.

Actually region 4 is the weakest in 1A, but region 1 is a close 2nd. Everything else you said is correct. In reality a large Carter County School with all the athletes could compete in 4A.

Except a consolidated Carter County School would be firmly in 5A in football, and not have to horses to compete most seasons. In everything else, they'd be in 4A, the largest classification, in all other sports. And that's not even taking into consideration the fact  that most the good athletes would just go to Elizabethton instead.

I want whatever Tackleberry is smoking while I’m watching Milton and the Vols probably struggle with UConn later! This post is wrong on so many levels, where did you get your info on R4 or did you just make it up? Because you obviously haven’t seen them, maybe you should get out of your little corner of the state more! Region 1 is absolutely terrible, you have to be to get swept in round 1! When Cloudland and Jellico are the top dogs I know that Clay and Gordy would dominate y’all’s region year in and out! Heck even RBS and JB would get more than 1 region wins year to year! Do some research please before you make an asinine statement like that! Your “best” (if you can use that word) 6-5 team just got ran off the field by a subpar 5-6 Greenback team! R4 still has 2 teams playing next week, we know how many R1 teams are left.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
