Riverside vs ER State Championship Showdown

Atlee Pond had 5+ D1 kids on his roster and didn’t make it past the first round. Coach Brooks is obviously a good coach only in his second year. It’s not entirely his fault the team is undisciplined it reflects and the parents and the rest of the people who have had these kids their whole life. He also can’t help they came from a weak region this year. He might have scheduled some weak competition, but he knows that 1 injury and the season is derailed , so can you blame him? He will have the team prepared for Riverside and will shock everyone.

What 5+ players were D1 that played at the same time under Pond? Are you counting Taylor Groves and couple of these kids as freshman?

He had Taylor Groves, Drake Alsup, Shaun Groves, Zech Prince, and Cam Swift. 4/5 played D1 and Swift was supposed to until an ACL injury. Under Pond Prince had 700 yards under Brooks he had 2000

All I say is this because I dont want to bash players or change this thread too bad. But none of those guys have ever got any playing time (maybe a scrap time play) and half of em are on practice squads at FCS. Compared to 5 kids with actual SEC offers who will probably get serious reps at FCS schools or higher. And for Prince he got better no doubt lots of ppl do when you grow 3 inches and put on 15 lbs of muscle as a senior.

ER’s road end next week. They got ran over by a middle school team in the forth quarter last night and almost got beat.

The riverside running back is more physical than groves and groves is a bit more elusive. The offense running groves over and over won’t work against Riverside. Fairly was overall better and faster than ER.
I’m curious if riverside is going to pound ER. If they do riverside wins

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
