I don't think the SEC is the best league in the Southeast any more. Maybe he wanted to play in a league with Florida State, Miami, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Maryland, Georgia Tech, NC State and Boston College, all of those are top 25-35 type teams every year now. Plus his UNC education would be better than any in the SEC except Vandy. And with UNC down, maybe he can get some early playing time, by the end of his first or second year there. Any 1-A verbal or signing means the player is great, especially to a team from a top conference.

Before the Maryville Fans jump all over this post (and they will), let me add my 2 cents.

1) He is a winner. When the game is on the line, Cade finds a way to make a play. 28-1 should speak for itself.

2) He has the height and a good accurate arm.

3) He has a better touch on his passes than any QB I have seen.

I consider him the best QB in this part of the world, even better than Duran Furgeson (sp?) at DB.

Since when is the ACC not D-1? Goodness, he could go to MTSU and still be D-1. It's still a great honor for a very good QB.

That might be taking it a little far. True the SEC hasn't been as dominant as it usually is recently, but the recruiting violations are coming to an end. I do believe that the SEC needs to seriously consider dropping Vandy and picking up Gtech or some other school. I would really love to see FSU come, but I know that is a far shot.

I didn't say that the ACC wasn't D1...I said is he really D-1 material...That is what I am wondering. I know that the ACC is D1 and I know that they are a respectable conference. I am asking if he is really that good.

North Carolina seemed to think so. Seldom do you get a a free ride worth a minimum of $120,000 without some confidence in a kids ability. And in all honestly what UNC thinks is all that matters at this point.

And FYI he also had a full ride offer from Clemson. Not an SEC school but that didn't seem to bother them during their last game.........was that the Peach Bowl?

Maybe Tennessee will play North Carolina in a bowl in a couple of years and he will get a chance to show the Vols what they missed. With the projects Tennessee signs, and players that have virtually no chance of qualifying, it's amazing they aren't offering a player from that close, when a team that cleaned their clock wanted him. I'll be watching North Carolina close, with players like Adarious Bowman, Columbia linebacker Fred Sparkman and the Brummett kid from Scott County on the team this year. Maybe Thompson will never pan out, but I'd rather take a chance on a hard working local player who's wanted by top level teams than some of the garbage they've put out on the field the last few years. BTW, the SEC just doesn't have the depth of quality teams of the ACC. Their records won't all be good enough to qualify for bowls but it's because they'll be beating each other, the midlevel teams and bottom finishers. Even Duke, the worst team in the league for years, gave the Vols a decent game last year. Could Vandy or Mississippi State have given one of the top ACC teams any kind of game at all last year?

I'm not goign to talk about the boy...but as far as the SEC not being better than the ACC...I laugh at that comment.

The SEC does have the reigning national champions...and they also have more football championships than any other conference since the inception of the BCS system...double the other conferences actually ;) (2-1)

Clemson thought Cade was good enough. The same Clemson that whipped UT all over the field.

took the words right out of my mouth Ron. Thompson is the real deal; granted Quarles' system is outstanding, but the system isn't checking off at the line nor throwing the ball for him.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
