DCCATVOICE,

Thank you for the info...the D-B Quarterback Club sponsors the tailgate dinner for our first game of the season and we all appreciate the hard work that goes into putting a tailgate dinner on...Big Ed's will get a few Indian fans, but, so will the tailgate...do you know what is being served?

What is your injury situation? What has been the defensive scheme for your first two games? How much passing does Clinton and Bradley do? (do they pass because they want to, or because they were so far behind they felt they had to?)Do you look for the Wildcats to make any major scheme changes to either side of the ball? How many passes do you expect the Wildcats to want to throw this week against D-B? How many have you all thrown in the first half of your first two games? How much concern is there with the amount of water that may befall the field at the "Ship"?

Again, thanks for the info.

Skunk, and WaCo Your ole arguing buddy in Hawkins Co. would like to wish you guys good luck Friday night. Put it on them. It's time to put some of these arrogant Knoxville area teams in their place. Roll Tribe!!! <_< We may argue with each other but when it comes to outsiders we stick together.

It is a lot of hard work for the boosters and I know they will appreciate your remarks of support. They have some kind of sandwich, chips and a drink for five dollars.

As of Monday, Oak Ridge is healthy and ready to go. Clinton and Bradley did not pass much at all which is of some concern to us since you guys throw the ball so well. Bradley ran the wing-t and just couldn't throw the ball at all. Clinton tried to run some option and they didn't try to throw much either. Oak Ridge is Oak Ridge on D. They seldom change what they like to do but with your passing attack I'm sure they will have a few new wrinkles.

Oak Ridge has thrown in all situations and in all quarters. People think Oak Ridge stays on the ground so much but in the Clinton game our #1 QB returning starter Scott McMahon threw for over 200 yards. Three other quarterbacks played and completed passes as well.

As for the field, Blankenship field has a high crown and usually drains real well. I don't think that will be a factor. Oak Ridge is bringing back a lot of their former players in this one including our legendary runner of the late 50's Jackie Pope. I can't wait.

DCCATVOICE,

Thanks for the info...$5.00 tailgate dinner sounds great...we will get the word out up here...

McMahon, Gulmire, Mitchell, remember those names well...hey, we know you all can throw and can run and can do both very well...Riverdale should probably be thought of as #1 with all their returning players, but you all have to be pushing them for that top spot...long season yet to be played, but, Friday gets state wide attention for the both of us - win or lose.

Who are some of the other players you expect back for Friday Night? Might be a few names we in Kingsport would know...

Good luck Friday night, have a good broadcast. I hope all end the game healthy.

DanDD,

Thanks for the support...the Wildcats are a real fine team, probably better than last year's team...We will have to play much better than we have so far to win, but that is what we will try to do...Frances is not helping matters, in regard to practice, (not speaking of the talking mule - you are probably too young to remember Francis the talking mule anyway, but rather the hurricane) too much water. It got wet in Oak Ridge before it got to us, so we are on slippery, but even footing.

I listened to the DB Bearden game on the internet. The announcers were terrible. I don't think they mentioned the name of a defensive DB player. Somebody was making those tackles. Hopefully the guys doing the DB vs OR game are more on the ball. However, I would thank Bearden for putting it on the Internet so I could keep up with the game and score. Wonderful WV is too far to travel to see a game.

Skunk I know Frances the talking mule well, I divorced that ole nag last Aug.

And yes you are right, Oak Ridge has a fine team and an awesome tradition. With the weather like it is this may be like "Ole time football". Two teams slugging it out in the middle of the field. Turnovers and kicking game will be the deciding factor.

My predictions Dry field D-B 35 Oak Ridge 14

Wet field Oak Ridge 14 D-B 7 I hope the sky is clear by Friday and Duran is flinging that football. Good Luck guys.

Sorry, but I don't get all the inside jokes that some of you clowns keep directing at Big Reno. Apparently, you don't know who I really am. Let me say this before I go on. The only person that Big Reno intends to vote for is George W.!!!! I think that they have already held the Church Hill mayorial election!?!?

It is a big and exciting week in Indian country. The volleyball team plays at South Thurs night for 1st place and the Tribe rolls into Oak Ridge Friday night. The miles on Big Reno's Big Red Truck keep rolling up.

As far as the football game is concerned, it is really only for bragging rights. These two talented teams should roll through the rest of their schedules and head for another big showdown in the Atomic City in the Quarterfinals. I fully expect one of these two teams bringing home the trophy. It's just hard to beat a good team twice. I'll have to go with the team with the fewest TO's winning it.

Major Hoople,

You have nothing on Big Reno by riding the mule backwards. If DB wins Friday night, Big Reno will wear speedos next week! Chicks get your cameras ready.

Big Reno I'll take you up on that speedo thing, even though that will possibly be one of the grossest things I've ever seen. And of course we know exactly who you are even though you try to play it off, only the true big reno would know most of the things you know. Good luck friday night and by this I mean don't get hit by any balls that come your way......... I'll be on the field and won't be able to save you........ LOOK OUT BIG RENOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :(

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
