Yeah corbin thats the team. Yeah they are 4a now, but in 2017 they was 3a, and didnt win a title, and was steamrolled in there playoff loss. They alo got beat by a 1a team that year just looked up there secedule. Point is a 3a team in tennessee good enough to win a title should not be losing to a 3a team in kentucky that got whipped in there playoffs plus lost to a 1a team. We always say tennessee football is far superior than kentucky, but our teams have not been doing a good job of showing it. Ive always felt a 3a champion in tennessee is equivalent to about a 5a team in the weak bluegrass state, but the few games ive followed the last decade we have been getting whipped. Blackmon to bowling green, alcoa to corbin. The worst is when Union City played a team about there size named mayfield the same year they won a title, but got beat by like 40 and shutout. Then that mayfield team doesnt win a title. Ive seen far to many of our teams win a title, and the same dang year lose to a school from kentucky thats about equal in size that isnt even good enough to win a title in there state. That mayfield team beat trousdale county one year, and it was trousdale only loss in like a 40 something game stretch, then that team gets whipped in the finals in kentucky. So no team trousdale played in there class can beat them for like 3 years, and they go undefeated against there out of class opponents in tennessee, but lose the one game they play against kentucky to another small school that is around there size. Do u not think it looks bad when our number 1 team in a class plays a kentucky team thats the 2nd-5th best team in there class of similar size and loses. Sure doesnt look good to me. We always down kentuckys football, and say we r superior, but we have looked like a joke in about every game ive cared to follow when i thought its a great matchup. Alcoa, union city, blackman, trousdale co ive seen it to many times. I was all over that thread when union city played mayfield, and a coulple of those mayfield fans got on this board, and there was a good back and forth, between us in tn and the mayfield posters. We was telling them how superior union city would b and how they would run it down there throats all night. Of course the mayfield fans just said wait and c tennessee football is behind the times, then after union city got destroyed we looked stupid. Aint noone on here thought alcoa would lose to corbin either and they did. I dont care if it was in ot, do we do moral victories now? Hay we can win 10 titles a row in 3a in our state, but the 1 time we play a kentucky 3a team we lose, but lets b happy it was only by a point in overtime to a team that cant win in any class they have been in in 40 years so lets celebrate that our champion cant beat there runner up who was beaten badly in there title game lets be happy about it.

Northview was very impressive last year. I think their draw cost them last year. They played South Side and Dyersburg and then Heritage. South Gibson, South Side and Dyersburg only two will go from the west. Will be a dogfight for sure. Like I said earlier, if South Gibson don't learn to score they won't make it to state. Will be interesting for sure.

Worst thing SC could do is get rid of Dyer. I agree with everything said above.
-
Jada Hart, Jasmine Bailey and Kaitlyn Patterson the first two being PG's are all good guards and can handle ball pressure and are good players. Raven Wells will be a good post. There were games this summer where any one of the one's I mentioned were in double figures. Gibson County will control TO's much better this year and they will press more and get back to playing faster. AA is down across the board. I have been all over watching ball. Alcoa jumped to AAA and Jackson County moved down. to A. No telling who wins it this year. I agree Union City, Westview and Gibson County will be a dogfight and must see basketball. Poster insuated that Gibson County has a mental block against Westview. Well give me Maddie Gray and we line up last year and they wouldn't have won a game. Let's see how Westview does this year. Their starting five last year had three transfers in it. Rogers from Obion, Trevathon from Greenfield and Gray from South Fulton. Looks like they swung and missed with the girl from Florida this year so let's see how they do playing with kids from Westview. Gibson County has a really good 7th grade class this year.I have done learned you play with what you got and work them hard and develop them and see what happens. Just keep battling and see what happens. I like our team this year. Very athletic. Every year is the same with injuries and can be catistrophic to any. I watched GC all summer long. South Side and GC was very evenly matched and was a classic war.We had some quality wins this summer. Beat Huntingdon, Henry County, Bowling Green, Liitle Rock Central as well as a couple other quality Kentucky Teams. Westview's talent pool may not be what it has been without transfers the next few. And as far as Wilkins riding off into the sunset, where do y'all seem to think he will leave?? Wilkins is a healthy dude and he loves basketball and loves coaching. I wouldn't be suprised if he coaches a few more years. He loves the game and loves every minute of coaching.
-
I think Gibson County is a top five team this next season but I do agree they will drop off a lot after this year. Westview lost a ton and will be down this season and hopes of returning to glass house again is slim. The run they have had is super impressive!

My take on GC for this year: Based on what I saw last year and heard this summer, I’m not sure GC could surprise me next year with any outcome. Wilkins is a great coach - they could win the district and region and go to Murfreesboro. They could also come in third in the district and not get out of region. The two returning starters are very talented but Guru is right that they didn’t always play hard last year. The other three starters are good enough in their roles for GC to be successful. There is no depth. Foul trouble could be a problem - Wilkins may avoid it by playing a lot of zone. An injury would be catastrophic. I hope they have a big year and Wilkins rides off into the sunset in Murfreesboro because, without some significant transfers, there are some tough years coming in the next few.

Daniel Boone coming down to 3A makes this much tougher. They added a couple transfers to the Flores girl. Cocke Co, Northview, Greeneville, and Daniel Boone - only two headed to Murfreesboro.

You all couldn’t wait for Clarke to leave -
We have 2 PG's that will be added to the lineup and another guard and all are athletic and can handle ball pressure. Gibson County beat Westview 4 times in 2024. Westview brought in a Miss Basketball Candidate from South Fulton last year and you want to say Gibson County has a mental hump against Westview. I tell you what you put her on Gibson County's squad and Westview would have had a mental hump. Here is a fact. They wouldn't have won it without her last year. Last I looked Gibson County has played with who we got on our campus. Let's see how Westview does this year with who they got on their campus. I do think they will be pretty good but I don't like shots being taken at my school especially from Westview.

Smith County fans are delusional is they are wanting to get rid of Dyer. If they think they are supposed to be some powerhouse of a football program that wins 10+ games every year they need a reality check. Never have been that good of a football program and probably never will. It’s too hard for a small rural place to be consistently good every single year

If you’re talking about when they lost to Corbin HS out of Kentucky(4A school in KY) in 2017, they lost by 1 point and Corbin went 14-2 that year in Kentucky so to say they got “taken behind the woodshed by a mediocre out of state team” is a bit of a stretch. You act like Alcoa never loses at all. They lose games every year, granted mostly to Maryville but other teams have beaten them in the regular season. Alcoa just turns into another animal in the playoffs. Winning is a learned skill and it’s an advantage that Alcoa has over everyone when the postseason rolls around

Carthage is returning QB will be his 3rd years starting and a Jr.He should be coming around.A soph tailback that got a lot of exp as a freshman.Biggest problem is the line. They have a couple of good athletes that will make plays but the rest still remain to be seen.Size is not a problem.New OC will be interesting. He is known to be a trickster but a genius in some peoples mind.Coach Dyer better get the ball rolling.I'm hearing a lot of eyes will be on him this year.GO OWLS

If Alcoa keeps winning titles after moving to 4a it makes the whole state look weak. Havent they won 10 in a row or something. My god how can a team win 10 in a row, and the 1 time they went and played a kentucky 3a team they got there ace's beat. Some redbone coonhound team handled business on them, but they can constantly win 3a in tennessee. I remember at the time looking up that redbone coonhound team that beat them, and found out that team is made fun of across the state of kentucky cause they havent won a title in like close to 50 years. Think i seen they are now in 4a in kentucky, and they never won a title in the last 40-50 years no matter if they are 2a, 3a, or 4a but somehow was able to take alcoa behind the woodshed in the midst of there title run about 5-8 ,years ago dont remember the year. Point is it looks bad when a team gets there hind end whooped like a 3 legged rented mule to a mediocre out of state team the 1 time they play them, but can dominate the whole state in 3a for over a decade. Someone has to start beating them.

52 Days until Kickoff with Alcoa. It's that time of the year when Tennessee Fans get pumped full of Bulls*** over expecting until reality hits them in the face. Stuff like the Nico B.S. is a prime reason I could care less if college football goes bankrupt. The prisoners are running the prison and they don't know what to do about it. 7-5 will be their best but 6-6 if they go lay down to someone like they do almost every year like Arkansas 19-14. -
Well a mediocre staff has won and beat some the quote on quote goats in high school coaching ranks in Tn . So I guess that makes guys like Wes Stone from South Pitt bad coaches then. Who has won serval state championships in his tenure as a head coach. 1A,2A,3A,4A,5A and 6A is all about numbers and depth not talent. Mediocre coaching staff don’t make in game adjustments on the fly without being able to think and strategize a plan of attack in a game of that magnitude! If you only what inner city coaches deal with like ( facilities, weight room, nutrition, making sure that you’re gonna come to school without being hurting and harmed here in the city of Memphis. It’s more than just about Football. It’s about life skills how to be a man having discipline. Learning how to fight through adversity, no matter what life throws at you.

Don’t mind me. I’m just here for the comments. “their” turn to play 🤣
-
I fully expect to see northview and cocke county back in murfreesboro for 3A. Northview is long, fast, and can shoot lights out.
-
Dumbest post I've seen since your last one.
-
Held back means didn’t play a lot in front of the SR’s that were the main Starters. Those guys played more defense than offense. Now it’s their turn to play.

Gibson County must have had some girls grow up pretty quickly if they are favored to win that district. The best guard and best post player seemed to give up during tougher games last season(Westview twice), though I know they are both oozing with talent. GC and UC will both have to get over a mental hump that comes with playing Westview girls, I lean towards UC doing that before GC. I agree with Westview only having 1 returner with experience, that's why I count on them being better after Christmas. I think they play South Gibson early on and that game will force some girls to grow up. No doubt South Gibson has a tough road ahead but I think their coach can have them prepared enough to beat Dyersburg. Talent is too much to overcome some nights so that element does favor Dyersburg. Easier said than done, but limit turnovers and transition buckets vs South Side and you give yourself a good chance to compete.

Thanks, Boog!

Does this have a chance to be the worst 2A district in the state? What others could be worse
