  1. My older son did not have a good experience with the high school team he played for. Mainly due to coaching/program culture issues that I became aware of after the fact. My younger son went to a different school. Loves it. He goes to school happy, he comes home from practice happy. My two son's experiences are night and day different. While I am proud of my older son for sticking out a tough situation, in hindsight, I should have transferred him. If I had been aware of the culture situation before he graduated, I would have transferred him even if I had to rent an apartment in another school zone. As a dad, you have to do whats best for your kids, football is a small part. You have ask yourself "What's the best decision I can make for the overall character development, future, educational experience and happiness of my child?"

  2. Exactly. Parents may be loyal to a certain school but it’s the child’s life and the best decision for him or her is what needs to be made.

  3. scrimmage will make both teams better and really appreciate loudon agreeing to it. Lots of other closer, bigger schools did not. LOL!

  4. Sounds like Greenback may have their hands full with Loudon this year. I'm glad the Loudon coach came back from West High, he has done a pretty good job down there in the past and bringing his kids to Alcoa for a scrimmage will only help them get better.

  6. As I awake from my Championship slumber, I see we already have a poll out. I’d like to believe we still should be pretty high on the list, maybe not 1 but definitely in the conversation. Fulton, I’ll believe they are “down” when I see it. As for Powell, they very well could be loaded and perhaps be the best team in 5a. However, they may want to check and make sure all their “players” are zoned and eligible so they don’t repeat last year. Also, watch out for SD and Sevier County if their QB stays healthy. Go Bobcats!

  7. I was hoping that measure would have passed last year by TSSAA. Similar concept as school vouchers getting a kid out of a poorly performing school. When students (or athletes) have options then it can encourage those in control get their act together.

  8. I'm personally a fan of allowing a high school kid one free transfer without moving into a new zone. Any future transfer after that, and I think they should have to move into the new zone.

  9. Yes sir. I'll tell a story sometime of some "grown ups" reaction to a kid transferring. You'll get a kick out of it then understand why parents take their kids somewhere else.

  10. I think we are better than that. I will make my way too early prediction that we beat Fulton and HVA. I think FHS, MJ, Powell and West are the tossups. I think we will go 2-2 in those games. So, 8-2 for this years Cats.

  11. Yes! #15, #25, #34 & #2 in the backfield will be unreal! Power & Speed! #12 , #4 , #20 will be big stretching the field. Plenty of talent at QB should make that position solid! Defense will be head hunters! #64 looked fast playing on the d side of the line! I think Alcoa has ALL the pieces in place to go 15-0!

  12. That's what I heard too and is more likely the truth than the post from the hater. Gaddis will play Mt Juliet (stupid move) and won't play AC? Give me a break. AC has the most cupcake schedule in the state (by choice) and they got their cocky brains beat out when they were forced to play a real team.

  14. I will get my predictions for Class A baseball posted up either later today (Friday) or Saturday. Right off the top of my head without putting much thought into it & checking all the Districts/Regions I would have to say TCA (Trinity Christian Academy) is the favorite to take the title. And, I believe Gibson County might be their best competition or the team that could get in their way. I will post more on this in a day or 2. Thanks.

  15. Yes we will!#21 im sure is Drew Jackson previous #25 and is an elite player a game changer against small teams like us.Harig always does a great job with those Loudon kids and should have never left or Loudon would be much better now. Also taking the team to play teams like Alcoa will show him who wants to play and who dont, def gives him a heads up going into the first game of the season--against us!

  16. There's another lesson to be learned from this. In your own post you described a positive experience with your son and his team, even though they weren't that great. Now, you say that you'd recommend grandson transferring to a better team... what changed? Will your grandson have a better experience, or will he subconsciously develop the attitude of cutting and running to a "better" situation when the going gets tough? High school sports today, and adulthood tomorrow... marriage, employment, and life in general can be a series of tough times and great ones in the aftermath... if you work through the tough ones.

  17. Hey balogna we need an update and prediction of your picks for the Single A state tournament . Media don’t cover baseball like they do football.

  18. I respect your opinion but politely disagree. I am a “coach”and I feel part of having good character is how you act and your grades/academic effort. If have seen kids think they can act however they want and they think there should be no consequences. Life doesn’t work that way and we do a tremendous injustice to students when we don’t teach them this early. If I have a kid that can’t stay out of trouble and do everything they can to make the best grades they can (which is different from kid to kid) then they don’t play... point blank. They are a representative of our school and community.

  19. 12 will be greatly missed. He was solid on both sides of the ball and special teams every single week. Great team leader too. Replacing JG, Herb, Jeremy and Kai'reese is going to be a tough task. Those were 4 great players that we have counted for the last 3 seasons. They account for 7 starting positions as 3 of them were two way starters.
