State Champion Predictions

I know it is early, but we play alot, and I want to make my predictions for the state championships.

Div II - This comes down to only 2 teams, Father Ryan and Harpeth Hall. Ryan has a great program, HH has a great player. These two teams know each other well. I thought HH should have won last year. A new coach who brings positive energy should be the difference. I pick HH.

DARK HORSE: GPS - Looks good early.

A/AA - East Ridge cannot be beat. They play at a different level. This division is over before it starts. Maybe the best A/AA team ever. Everybody else is playing for second. My pick for second is DCA.

AAA - Looks like #7!!!! Sullivan South is good, my pick for 2nd.

Very intereting picks.

I like ER alot but I think they are very beatable. If the setting doesn't improve I say they don't win it. I haven't seen Anderson County play but I am hearing good things. I will go with AC as of now.

AAA-- Brentwood obviously is the fav now. but I really think that other teams will improve more then they will by the end of the year. The two best teams I have seen are bwood and Independance. Other good teams....Sullivan South..love them. Germantown has to be top 2 or 3. Then you have Siegel who has a chance to make some noise but they will need to improve. Has ANyone seen Houston this year?

Harpeth Hall wins it this year. They are really good.

New the forum...but old to the Game...

My picks are:

AAA - 1. Brentwood 2. Sullivan South 3. Germantown 4. Siegel/Independence

A/AA - 1. Anderson County 2. East Ridge 3. Notre Dame 4. DCA/USJ

Div. II - 1. GPS 2. Father Ryan 3. Harpeth Hall 4. Baylor

Division 2 may very well be the most balanced in the state. You can make an argument for any of those teams winning it all, except maybe Baylor, but the Big Red will be good no doubt. Jinx is fixture at Ryan, and they are great and Harpeth Hall has the best player in the state, along with great coaching, but GPS may could be the best "team" in the state.

A/AA is also a toss up, but I think Anderson County is due a win, as many times as they have been there. It is a forgone conclusion every year that Anderson County is in the A/AA state tournament. (How many years in a row is this now?) Never doubt Coach Neely at East Ridge, as she has won more games of volleyball in the state of TN than anyone, and she may haver her best team, and maybe, her best player ever. Notre Dame could suprise some people. USJ will be there, as will DCA. Portland could suprise some people, too.

In AAA, everyone is playing for second place. Unless the earth opens a hole and swallows Brentwood, or something silly happens in substitution in the district tournament, they are winning #7. Sulllivan South, Siegel, or Germantown could make a run, but in the end, its the Bruins all the way.

I am making my prediction now, and I want to be clear.  No one can stop Brock, and East Ridge has nobody in AA that can hang with her.  End of story.  DCA plays us at Brentwood on Saturday, and so does Lipscomb.  See how seriously they challenge us.  AA is over.

I agree, setting is a big concern, but it was last year to.  Our strength is hitting not setting.  Brock can hit anything near her.  If we had a setter we would play in AAA.  Even without a strong setter we win.  Watch us Saturday and see!

Private school is GPS, and Brentwood in AAA.

Their just glad we play in AA or there would be no 7!

The Fro is BACK at the boro, and Brock will hand her the trophy!

Not so fast Ridger many things could happen from now and til the end of season. I appreciate your enthusiasm and hope this to be true. Remember this is one of the ultimate team sports and one player can't do it all. The other players will have to step it up too!! I saw Boyd's big hitter Scruggs get taken completely out of the game by several good blocks. If the volleyball gods our with them and throw in some luck and good coaching it'll be so! I bet if you asked Coach Neeley she would say lets just take one game at a time and go from there! What does their glad we play in AA or there would be no 7 mean? Clarify?

I must say that your recent posts have been entertaining though mildly disturbing. Your support of East Ridge and Brock (your daughter?) can't be disputed. What I don't understand is how you make these ridiculous statements and predictions about East Ridge considering how they have already performed this season. Obviously, you haven't attended any matches this year or seen the game scores. East Ridge has in no way been dominating teams. At the Choo Choo scrimmage last weekend they were far from impressive. As far as East Ridge threatening Brentwood's run for 7, Brentwood beat them both at the Choo Choo camp and at the Brentwood Team Camp. Both matches were fairly easy wins. I think the scores were around the 25-15, 25-17 range both times. I even think they beat you in the third games without their starters. That's not to say that East Ridge won't get better and be a major powerhouse by the end of the season. I'm sure Brock is a fine player, but in the games I've seen East Ridge play, she has not stood out. I can't imagine the pressure you are putting on her. They way you talk, it sounds like there's not another worthy player on the team. I wonder how that makes them feel. All this talk about who is the best player is silly. It is really so subjective. How can you really compare setters, hitters and defensive specialists? On any given day, the best player could be anyone. Taylor Parrish is a great player, but anyone who has followed her in club and school knows that she has had bad matches. She would be the first to tell you that. No player or team is great all the time. So, lighten up.

dougw, ERidger's reference to "7" is Brentwood's quest for 7 state championships. I assume ERidger is saying if ER played AAA instead of AA, they would beat Brentwood for the championship in that classification. So far in preseason, ER has not beaten Brentwood.

becool, welcome to the volleyball forum and I agree with your statement for the most part. I doubt that ERidger is either ER coach, but is probably a player or a boyfriend of them.

I like ERidger's support of the team, but it is probably overly optimistic. In the matches I have seen so far, they are good and very quick. They do not appear to be a strong as some previous ER teams I've seen. I haven't seen Anderson Co. play, but they also appear to be a contender. I don't make predictions this early in the season as there are a lot of matches to be played and many things can happen along the way.

Well I guess everybody in AA should forfeit all their matches and just quit.........Since East Ridge has already won it and 1st real match hasn't even been played yet......

I agree with PageMan, it is too early to be making "bold" predictions. Especially, considering that the "play-days" and "jamborees" don't necessarily tell the whole story. What I mean is, I have seen our team play all 13 girls but when the season really starts, 4 or 5 of them will probably not play at all. And for the ER vs. Brentwood (and even GPS) discussion, mark on your calendar, Sat. Aug 27, at Ooltewah, when those 3 teams plus Ooltewah and Ft. Payne all play each other. After that, maybe some "bold" predictions can be made. If nothing else, at least some bragging rights!!

I really like Sullivan South. The setter is as good as I've seen. I know Brentwood is always tough, but South has a lot of weapons. I am taking a longshot I know, but I pick South.

Private school is really tough. I like GPS and I like Harpeth Hall, but I have a feeling about Father Ryan, that is my pick. Again, no money is on the table.

East Ridge has to be the pick for small school. I love several of the other teams, but I think this is a no-brainer.

I just spent two days at Brentwood, and other than a severe case of numbbutt, I have some general obsevations, beyond the obvious which is the food is much better at East Ridge!

Brentwood is good, but not dominat. This is a beatable team. I will stick with my sullivan south prediction, but I think others have a real shot. Franklin plays to up and down, not consistent. This will hurt their chances. Coach needs to ease up.

Loved Father Ryan. They look fantastic. Harpeth Hall can't beat this team.

East Ridge is the ONLY pick in small school. This division is over. They will not lose a game at State. DCA, Page, Lipscomb are not capable of beating this team. I agree with the other posters that setting is weak, but Brock can hit from anywhere. She reminds me of when Perilli carried Page. Just get her the ball and stay out of her way.

    • Hmmmmm……doe dee doe doe….i drove the lawnmower down to practice today…….hmmmm…… we got some new faces………. One can run faster than my lawnmower in fifth gear…… a few will be disappointed come November that they jumped ship and went down to that sewage facility……. You can bet the lawnmower on that.
    • I don't know what's going on in the town of McMinnville, but I've read this and it's disturbing.  I'm a "player" person, and I want what's best for the player. If a player gets cut off the team because she said the "F word" then good grief. I mean, come on guys. I wish there was a way for the player to transfer to a different program and just play ball. There are a lot of athletes that are stuck because they're in crappy situations regarding their team/coach. This is player just happens to be one them.
    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
