Best Region in 1A

There's been a lot of discussion on who has the best or strongest region in 1A so I decided to start a thread about it. I don't think it really matters but people like to talk about it so here goes...I think most would agree that region 4 is the best but how would you rank them top to bottom? Without putting much thought in to it, here are my thoughts:

1. Region 4

2. Region 7

3. Region 3

4. Region 6

5. Region 5

6. Region 8

7. Region 1

8. Region 2

well lets see...

8th. region 2 - honestly don't know anything other than coalfield who gets beat by hampton... pretty straightforward. Don't see any legitament top ten teams out of this one.

7th. Region 5 - Some regions are top heavy. Jo Byrns as consistence. If eagleville had been able to keep a solid record this year it would have helped this region but they didn't. Also Cascade's loss to wayne county didn't help their region either. Really Jo Byrns is the only team that can be even considered a top ten team and they will probobly start in the top 5 as well.

6th. Region 1 - Usually competative within itself which is a plus, but does not dominate region 2 very well in the playoffs. Region 2 and region 1 both suffer from only 1 team in history getting to the burro. I would say no top ten teams but with Townsend getting hurt last year it may have been a blessing in disguise as younger guys got to play. 1 top ten team out of here.

5th. Region 3 - Suffers from being top heavy. South Pittsburgh has consistence and Lookout valley is an above average team. But whitwell, temple, silverdale...ect would be whipping posts in any region. South Pitt is it out of this one for top ten teams.

4th. Region 7 - Tough to predict because we don't know alot about it. The played each other close (for the most part) in the regular season and also played well against region 8. Look for Bruceton and Mckenzie to be in the top ten out of this region.

3rd Region 6 - A tougher region than some people give them credit. Luckily the Mount Pleasant fans don't make anyone feel sorry for that slip up . Look for two top ten contenders out of this one and 1 top 5 team. Mount Pleasant is obvious and the other one is collinwood. A fun fact for doubters of collinwood, they have only lost 7 games to 1A opponents in the past two years. (once to columbia Academy, Twice to Friendship, Three times to Mount Pleasant, and once to Jo Byrns). Out of those losses only 1 team in those years failed to make at least the third round. They are a better team than their records have reflected.

2nd Region 8 - past home to last years state champions and home to expected representative from the west. Look for two teams to hit the top ten board and one hit the top 5.

1st Region 4 - Home to burro bound teams the past two season. look for a region 4 team to start the pre-season poll at #1 for the third year in a row and also Look for three top be in the top ten and 2 in the top five.

Great data on the link showing how all teams in the regions did. If we are talking about best region you have to look at all the teams. I was surprised at the regions with several teams with 3-7 or worse records. Makes you go Hmmmm

Region 1 is number 1 for a reason!!

Lets hope so for a season. As far as the strong region thing goes, 4 is the deepest with 3 of the best in one region, some of the other regions has alot of parity, but none of them has 3 really strong teams. Most of these regions have a couple of good teams. Region 8 had three good ones until JC moved up.

8th Place: Region 2 - not a legit contender for a top ten ranking in the house.

5th Place: Region 1 - These three regions are too close to call. There is no difference

5th Place: Region 5 - between the teams in each of these regions. All three regions

5th Place: Region 3 - have only one solid team.

4th Place: Region 7 - Having two skillful teams in Lake Co. and Union City places this region here.

3rd Place: Region 6 - The best thing about this region is Mt. Pleasant....and they haven't done much.

2nd Place: Region 8 - Solid competition by FA and Bruceton

1st Place: Region 4 - Home of three legit top ten teams in 1A: FCS, Gordonsville, TC

If I was to rank them based on top teams and post season performance I would go

1. Region 4 : A team in the title game the last 2 years with a gold ball ( Trousdale Co.).

2. Region 7: Union City in the Championship game 2 years ago and a Quarterfinalist in Lake Co. who knocked off last season's favorite to come out of the west Fayette Acad. and had state champ JCS on the ropes until a 4th down TD pass with 30 sec. left won it for the eagles. McKenzie is always solid along with Bruceton and West Carroll make this a tuff region.

3. Region 8: Ranked them 3rd because of the loss of JCS and the fact that Fayette Academy lost their coach or they would have been 2nd. TCA must carry the torch for this region now.

4. Region 1: Hampton makes this region tuff. They were semifinalist last year and are always solid.

5. Region 6: Again kind of like above, Mt. Pleasant makes this region's ranking. Take them away and this region's power would drop.

6. Region 5: Jo Byrns is always solid and hard nosed. The rest of the region is chasing them.

7. Region 3: South Pittsburg and the band of average teams. I know Temple made a run last year but lost everything. Lookout Valley and the others are not traditionally strong and this region lost alot of power when Boyd moved to AA.

8. Region 2: Coalfield is the only team that is really feared from this region. The other generally do not last long in the post season.

Lake County graduated almost everyone off of a team that reached the quarterfinals last season. I think that Union City and McKenzie will be the class of this region.

3rd Place: Region 6 - The best thing about this region is Mt. Pleasant....and they haven't done much.

2nd Place: Region 8 - Solid competition by FA and Bruceton

Um, Bruceton is in region 7, not region 8. TCA will be the class of this region duriing the 07 season. They will open the season ranked in the top 5.

1st Place: Region 4 - Home of three legit top ten teams in 1A: FCS, Gordonsville, TC
