Last I checked, Randy has won more than 25% of his games in the last 5 years as well. So upsets arent allowed anymore? Its unfortunate what happened in baseball, but when you look at the body of work and the body of his tenure, your stretching it.

Point is, the losing with dignity schtick is getting old. If we have to hire a less reputable coach in order to be successful, so be it.

OK, so Rankin went on a losing note, I would kill for Oakland to just be at that point right now, much less where Smyrna is. Oakland as a program got complacent, and its gotten us to where we are now.

king has had enough chances 2 get it done wit all kinds of talent ova the yrs.

winnin the district or region aint enough.

he gets transfers from otha schools & still cant get the gold.

hawks aint won a gold ball since 00.

had all kinds of talent 2 wit all kinds ofzone exempts.

time 2 go wit sum new blood if u ask me in both sports.

i am tired of losin when it counts wit all that talent.

time 4 u 2 cut the double standard 4 ur boys, op.

nobody that eva played football @ ohs wants dirtydog rankin on our sidelines.

he won wit playas zoned 4 us that he stole .

excuse me...i will take rankin back if he stays we won the state last year and we might have been there this year..but that is my opinion..Rankin doenst have charecture issues his disipline on the team is greatly missed according to some of the post on the off season thread...In fact 2P if you really knew the issues that was causing problem in alcoa i think that you would be very surprised i will not discuss it on here because it is inappropriate...the biggest fault that Rankin has is he is brutally blunt with the players and parents and a lot of times the truth gets you in trouble....I think oaklnad was smart to try and get him as yall are getting the athletes over there and it is a good opportunity for someone

Im not too hard to please, all i ask is for us to competitive. Ive never subscribed or have wanted to subscribe to the state championship or bust theory, but if Oakland can just make the playoffs every year and contend once in a while for a championship thats fine by me.

As for Mack and Randy, thats the opinion that your entitled to, no matter how wrong it may be.

As for your statement that no former players wanted Rankin at Oakland, Ill just say that I know a few that would make your proclaimation a lie.

Is it just my senality taking over or does this thread seem to have some pieces missing?

Second thing is 'if' the Hoover job was actually offered to Rankin, (which I seriously doubt) he would have taken it in a second! Could have started drawing his Tn retirement and still would have had time to get vested in the Ala retirement system.

Main thing is NOW to actually find a good Coach for Oakland and get them in place quickly for the kids sake so they can actually enjoy Christmas in peace knowing what their future holds.

Oakland will find a great coach who will be the right fit, everyone needs to be patient! Some of the names being braught up on here are excellent coaches! One in particular is coach Gary Rankin! I would take coach Rankin in a heart beat because I know for a fact he is not only a great coach but he's a great person! JJ is also another class act as a coach and person! Oakland will find a great coach just hang in there! I can't believe grown men are on here still crying about Gary Rankin!

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
