9AA Tourney

Give me a break. What more can you "do with the players given" than develop them since 7th grade, go undefeated in the District, including the tourney (who has ever done that in recent years?), and win every game against Tenn. opponents for the year? Coaching is the most important part of a high school team - more so than talent. You saw two great coaching jobs tonight (CPA and Lipscomb). Pierce is a good coach, but when you have a chance to recognize a coach for taking his team to an undefeated district record, you do it.

Yes but everyone expected CPA to win the district this year. FRA was picked middle to lower 3rd of the district and they finished tied for 2nd. I'm not saying Maddux isn't a great coach, most coaches in this district are, just that this year Pierce (according to other coaches I might add) did the best job with what was given to him - which is really what high school sports is about. I highly doubt the coaches of the district would be so blindly prejudiced because of a coach's age.

I seriously think Maddox doesn't give that a second thought. His team accomplished their goal and that is reward enough.

I agree that he is cool with it, but him not winning is like Z not getting MVP because he has a lot of talent to work with. You reward accomplishment, not penalize someone for using the tools they have in the best manner - and winning.

I do not agree that the other coaches in 9AA would have gone undefeated with CPA's players.

I feel there are probably 3 other coaches in the district that could have gone undefeated with CPA's talent.

doesn't lipscomb, cpa, fra, and ezell recruit.. so i think that Maddux should get the honor cause of recruitment. hands down

hahaha yeah obviously these schools recruit. No offense to ezell, but if they recruit, they're doing a sorry job of it. I won't even bring up Z's past, mainly because thats what it is, past.

CPA was not the clear cut favorite by many Coach T members. If you go back to earlier posts (in November) on 9AA there were quite a few members that had CPA as low as 4th finishing 9-5 in district play. Everyone, now that the district is over wants to say CPA should have won the district because of all the talent they had. This same talk was definitely not being said in November.

But the fact is: Maddox did go undefeated. Anything else is just conjecture, and my point is you don't penalize a coach's recognition based on what people think could have been done, but what is done.

Coach Pierce did a great job, no doubt. But how many times will a district coach go undefeated?

That's enough about this topic. Don't want to diminish Pierce's award. It's done and he is to be congratulated.

Someone sure must have had a crystal ball, because Miller, Anderson and Peterson have gone to CPA since kindergarten. Mason came to CPA in the 7th because of the academics, nothing to do with athletics.

This is true.

Where is crimsontide? You would think he would want to be involved with this conversation... If I recall correctly, he projected CPA to finish 4th or 5th in the district because "Maddux can't coach." Sure proved us wrong... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

i never want to hear another word about jake peterson he helped his shooting percentage going 100% from the field tonight (0-0) and had about 4 turnovers 0 assists maybe 1 rebound and got burned by whoever he guarded outside..... and all this in a half

anyway that was just bothering me but Coach Pierce of FRA has done great with the talent and size of the school he works with tip of the hat to him

KYLE REEVES ALL-DISTRICT? Someone like to explain how that happened is there no one else more worthy? (caleb simpson, jordan hawbaker, wayne cox) haha anyone really

This is just wrong. Why call out a player for making All-District? The kid has had a great season and played through a major injury. Yes, there may be someone with better stats or whatever you think it is that gets a player that title, but he is an amazing leader and a great ball player. Congratulations to him!

"I have to say that I loved the passion of the fans both CPA and DL but I thought that Mr. blabla who slid on the court was very idiotic. That WAS classless. Or maybe just stupid and not funny. The CPA fans weren't classless. That one fan was."

Hmm. OK, let me get this straight:

CPA students booing cheerleaders - classy.

CPA student yelling at cheerleader who just finished back handsprings "you s*ck at back handsprings" - classy.

CPA players, as Coach Pierce was walking behind them to accept his award, shrugging their shoulders and pointing at Maddux saying he should have won - classy.

Wow. And all these years I've been thinking class was something totally different....

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
