Z-Plan (All schools not created equal)

Well here goes my 2 cents.

The entire classification process is a joke. All they did was create another layer of football playoffs. Instead of 5 classes, we have 6. What for? I don't know. It was thin with 5 classes, now with 6 it has watered down the entire process even more. Now we have 192 teams that will make the playoffs out of 310 or so schools eligible. As for the redistricting process, I think they just sit around pulling names out of a hat. There seems to be no rhyme or reason. We have been told one thing, but I'm sure when it comes out there will be something different. I wish the coaches and administrators would stand up and quit letting Ronnie Carter do as he pleases. It's time for a new direction for high school sports in the state of Tennessee.

I have been saying that a long time. They had the A, AA, AAA system worked out pretty good by 1992 and went to the 1a to 5a system that diluted things out. The biggest excuse has been to minimize travel. The reality is that the A-AAA system had less over all travel for most teams than the current system. Now it is going to be very convoluted.

If I'm not misunderstanding, I think glover isn't upset about playoffs as much as he is about having a 9-team region/district whatever. He just seems like he's from jackson, but I think he's complaining about the whole 8 set games that limits who they play outside of the district. Gordonsville and Trousdale will most likely play Smith and they'll only have one more game outside the region. Jackson and Monterey will probably play Upperman and have one more. I see where he's coming from on the season. The playoffs are a different story though.

I think if you look at Jackson Countys schedule for this year and compare it to the schedule they will have to play under the new plan, you will see what jacksoncounty is upset about. Instead of playing teams they want to play, they will play teams they have dropped in the past. Lower class teams that they weren't able to beat. They will have to play teams like Trousdale,Watertown,Gordonsville and Friendship just like Monterey, Clay Co. and the other 4A teams have had to do the past few years. At first glimpse of the plan, I thought Monterey was going to escape that burden, but if it goes as jacksoncounty described, I guess were gonna have to buckle down and keep playing quality opponents. It makes you a better team. Either that or you roll over like Vols did this year. Just my opinion.

You will be playing schools your size and smaller. I think you can build off that.

You guys cant beat Trousdale so how is Jackson Co and Pickett

Yes it is official, those teams plus District 8 will be combined to form a 9 team region, just as was posted.

Unless I am missing something, and I may be, but that is not how I see it. Each district is its own entity. Each team has to play the other team in its own district. Other than that they can make out the schedule however they want. If they were combining districts for 7 and 8 then they would be combining districts all over the state. I missed that if it was ever said.

District 7

Clarkrange

Clay Co. (1A)

Monterey (1A)

Pickett Co. (1A)

Jackson Co. (2A)

District 8

Gordonsville (1A)

Red Boiling Springs (1A)

Friendship (2A)

Trousdale County (2A)

Watertown (2A)

Apparently, the Board of Control pulled that one out of its nether regions today.

It was published in the article on the tennessean website, and at the top it said that districts 7 and 8 will be combined for football to make a 9 team region schedule due to lack of football playing schools in the area.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
