When you play teams with excellent defenses like CAK and Loudon, you are not going to run up huge scores, particularly when the teams are as familiar with Alcoa's offensive tendencies as these two. Alcoa played each team twice this season and has played one or both of the teams twice per season for the past 5 years. There aren't a lot of secrets among these three teams.

You might get an argument from elsewhere in the state, but it's my opinion that District 4 is home to 3 of the top 8 3A teams this year - Alcoa, CAK, and Loudon. This season CAK and Loudon both may have their best teams of the past five years. So, rather than being surprised by the scores, I kind of expected the games to go pretty much the way they went. When you play good competition, you will not always dominate.

Chauncey there is know doubt that CAK and Loudon are 2 of the better teams in 3a. If both of these teams were in the west bracket. At least one of them would still be alive maybe both. Remember CAK did beat Elizabethton and Loudon beat polk county. So who would you put in front of Loudon and CAK? Lets say Milan and Elizabethton but who else.

Chauncy: good point about the defenses we've seen the past 2 games. Another reason for the low scores is Alcoa's ability to eat up the clock. IMO, Rankin is a master at this. Loudon & CAK have both gotten better through the past few years.

Excited about the EHS/AHS matchup. Alcoa will be ready and focused come Friday. Can't wait to see what EHS brings to the field. Glad Turkey Day is this week; that will be a little bit of a distraction that will make the week go by faster! :thumb:

There you go again, poor little Elizabethton they don't match up with the d-line of Alcoa. Elizabethton has one of the fastest d-lines in Tennessee, most of the score on the Cyclones came in the 4th where unlike most TN coaches Coach Witten was playing the JV and freshman kids. Coach Stan Ogg will have the Alcoa Team crazy with his D. They will stop the run first and force Alcoa to pass, then lookout just like CAK and AE. No team in TN has more picks than Elizabethton.

Nobody else. I just thought it would sound too provincial to say that District 4 has 3 of the top 5 teams in 3A without seeing all the teams play.

I will get this started by saying how impressed I was tonight with the Cyclones. Since I live so close to Cyclone Stadium I couldn't miss the opportunity to see who my Tornadoes would face. Let me say this very LOUDLY-----Alcoa had better bring their A game. Elizabethton has a diverse and well balanced offense. They spread the field and have a QB who is more athletic than any one signal caller they have faced this year. Their WR's take take deep, almost sideline splits and they will wear you out with the slant route. Alcoa should forget the fact that CAK beat the Cyclones. I was much more impressed with Elizabethton than CAK not to disrespect CAK. Remember Elizabethton had their 3 best players, including the QB, hurt in that game. Elizabethton reminds me of a "poor man's" Maryville and I do mean that respectfully. They are well coached. Sean Witten reminds me of George Quarles with his play calling. I hope like heck the Alcoa kids do not look over on the other side during warm ups and see that Elizabethton only has about 40 players because that was my first impression at the start of the game. But let me tell you......about half of those players are Seniors and their lineman and linebackers/runningbacks do not go both ways so they are very fresh. Their passing game is going to give Alcoa fits and their QB is very, very athletic. Finally they play 2 runningbacks. Number 25 can absolutely fly and is probably the fastest kid I have seen this year. Number 33 is bigger and is more of a between the tackles kind of runner with quick feet. Alcoa will be able to run the ball though. AE would have been a much better match up for Alcoa IMHO plus it is just different playing up here. It will be about 10 degrees colder than what the Alcoa kids are used to. Just a different environment. I'm excited about the match up as I wont have to drive far to see my Tornadoes :thumb:

Obviously you were not at that game. All Betsy players started the game and were injured during the game. The only difference maker would have been the W/R who is also the kicker. They had a 44 yrd field goal at the end of the game for the win. However, to expect a HS player to routinely make 44 yrd feild goals with 10 seconds on the clock for the win is unrealistic. The back up QB actually gave CAK more trouble than the starter due to his ability to accurately throw. Everyone knew CAK's weakness on defense was the pass defense. Wth the exception of #23, they were exposed. To say that Betsy QB ks the most athletic, #2 @ CAK was very athletic and an excellent runner.

Bottom line, Betsy had a chance to show how good they were #6 rank vs #5 rank at home and couldn't get it done ! I do believe Betsy is as good as CAK and Loudon, but to dismiss Betsy's loss as a fluke due to injuries is disrespectfull. I would invite Betsy to join the district with CAK,Loudon, and Alcoa and see how well they do. It takes its toll on you year after year knowing you may win a state championship if you could just get out of your district. Alcoa has made both teams get better but they are not at Alcoa's level yet nor is Betsy. No one on Betsy team is like Toney, or Robinson. May be best 2 3a players in the state.

Keep talking trash and disrespecting the toughest district in 3a, and come live in their shoes for a season.

Nobody is disrespecting your district but there is nothing wrong with enjoying our season and talking about disrespect we have had our share of it.I heard it from AE fans all week but at least BETSY shut them up. ;)

    • And that needs to go, Charter ,private ,magnet, city and any school that operates differently than pure public schools should be separated. What really needs to be done is address urban and rural. About all the usual powers have access to several kids from other schools period.
    • Sad deal. Hate it. So the coach that kicked her off is now fired??
    • Slightly off topic from a gender standpoint but just observed several boys volleyball games in the Knoxville area for a short spring season. The guys seemed to have a great time. There were several club players on each team but several football, basketball and tennis players involved. Knoxville Catholic, Maryville, Heritage, Knoxville West maybe William Blount had teams. Thanks to Coach Brent Carter from Knoxville Catholic/K2 for getting it together. I’m sure the coaches involved got several laughs trying to coach guys that really had no idea what they were talking about but pretty athletic and competitive. Catholic’s best basketball player told the coach he had played a lot of 2:3 and 1:3:1 but never a 3:3 LOL Maybe it will catch on with some more schools next year.
