Actually Alcoa fans, don't listen to THIS guy. Alcoa has absolutely earned their respect locally. Now, it is time to earn that respect nationally. Why not? When you've conquered your state, which I believe Alcoa has, then you move on to greener pastures. You don't need to play 3 or 4 games OOS every year. That would b nue way too much money. However, their are plenty of teams from KY, GA, AL, or even NC that would play. St. X or Trinity in KY never back down. Prattville and Hoover in AL never back down. Camden Co or Buford in GA never back down. Those are just a few examples. You guys have options. Go get'em, boys! I talk you guys up on the national boards every year. Most people are impressed, but some would love to see better competition. As would I.

Omaha when you have drank the water in Alcoa for as long as I have, played pick games in the Hall community, worn the Maroon and grey, lifted up at least one of the 11 championship trophies (I was on two of the championship teams), and still have deep deep roots in Blount county then you can talk about who the fans should listen too.

In fact what concern is it of yours anyway?

Maybe he wants to see the program continue to succeed & grow. I think going to a national level would be awesome but continuing to dominate Tennessee & collecting gold balls ain't a bad way to spend the fall either. The national thing would be nice but if the dollars ain't there to do it then it would be a mistake to try & would probably have a negative impact on the program overall.

From my viewpoint, the answer is quite simple: TSSAA. Their re-districting plan put Alcoa in a four team district thus giving Alcoa a four team base schedule. Add the standard Maryville game and you have 5 games. William Blount and Heritage refuse to schedule Alcoa because they know they will lose. With TSSAA's new state championship configurations, any loss hurts your bid for the playoffs.

Alcoa did try to get out of this game. When that was not possible, they tried to play Bell County again and BC wanted no part of it.

It may only get worse next year. The KY City County bowl contract is complete, the Howard home and away is complete, and the McMinn Central series may be complete. If I am correct, we have only 7 games next year. Somebody set me straight if I am not on target here.

Actually 5 other teams in their district. Loudon, Scott, Kingston, Stone, CAK. With Maryville that's 6, still have 4 spots to fill. Doesn't change much about what you were saying but didn't want you to forget someone ;)

You are right. I always forget Scott for some reason. I do not know why. Big bunch of boys.

I can think of some in-state match ups that I would like to see. Alcoa vs Signal Mountain and Maryville vs McCallie Play the first games as double-header in Finley......then return to Maryville HS.

Alcoa vs Greenville, Alcoa vs Pearl Cohn, Alcoa vs Riverdale, Alcoa vs David Lispcomb or Goodpasture.

The scheduling problem is due the success of the program and impacted negatively by the current playoff guidelines.

Scots50 is right ! Lets face it,the way the TSSAA changed the districts and the way you make the playoffs are both completly screwed up. The old way wasn't perfect by any stretch, but the way it is done now? Is that truely the best the brain trust could come up with??? Tried to solve problems but you just create others.

Better yet....... Alcoa v. Oakland : The teacher v. the pupil. This needs to happen!

Really? This is how you treat someone who wants ALL of TN to succeed and get better? TN is down this year nationally and, right now, Alcoa is the top team in the state. Why not show it nationally? I've always been an admirer of Alcoa's and I would love to see them face other OOS competition. So, to answer your question, yes, it is a concern of mine to see Alcoa play OOS competition and succeed. Better showings OOS bring more exposure to other good teams from TN. This will, in turn, help out our college football programs as well. We all know the Big Orange need some help these days.

I don't think Goodpasture is ready to play Alcoa again...Check out the scores from state championships:

2005: Alcoa 55 Goodpasture 13

2006: Alcoa 31 Goodpasture 3

2007: Alcoa 35 Goodpasture 3

Maybe you meant to say a different school?

Well let a Maryville guy set you guys straight. Just kidding really, figured I would be the last one anyone wants to hear from LOL. But being a Maryville grad and supporter this type of thread looks pretty familiar. Alcoa is having a very good run, and with that comes a bullseye on your back. Whether intentional or not you become a bit villified by some for your success. Nothing is ever enough. You have it too easy and that type of thing. You string some State Titles and wins together and suddenly you are supposed to over night go out and start traveling across the country to play others. There was another thread on here by A-Town 1408 called Farragut Who? And he was pointing out Alcoa's dismantling of larger schools in scrimmages. He took some heat from some of his own for the way he worded some things but I can relate to his position. Alcoa gets accused of playing soft competition so when they handle those bigger schools in scrimmages A Town thought it was appropriate to point that out. I think that is fair on his part. Maryville was accused of hiding in 4A for years. They moved up last year and finished runner up and that has quietened it a bit. But in terms of Alcoa and what they have or have not proven. Last year they beat the 6A runnerup pretty good. I think that says about all that needs to be said for how good they are. Alcoa, like Maryville a couple of years back is ranked nationally. They have no control over that, and they are not obligated to go all over the place playing people to legitimize it. They are playing in their proper classification, just like we were regardless of what others want to believe. And if it is so easy why aren't many others having the same success? Just my two cents worth. During our run people would point out when we beat Alcoa they are a small school so "big deal". We knew each time we had beaten a very good football team. Now Alcoa has stepped it up a notch and it just proves our train of thought.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
