5-A playoffs (may get very interesting)

5A playoffs with field of 32 looking pretty solid: Henry Co., Powell, Gallatin, Columbia, Morristown West, Memphis East, Shelbyville, Dyer Co., Beech, Hendersonville, Ooltewah, Tullahoma, Cherokee, Knox West, Glencliff, Clarksville, Clarksville NE, South-Doyle, Sullivan South, Antioch, Tennessee High, Springfield, Station Camp, Centennial, Ridgeway, Hamilton, Cleveland,

that makes 27teams either with 5 or more wins in the bank or the 5th win on the remaining schedule in the "can't miss category"

Bartlett vs Craigmont will give the winner a 5th and eliminate the loser. 28

White Co. , Anderson Co. and Munford are strong candidates to win out and go from 3-5 to 5-5 in the season's final 2 weeks 29-31

And the 32nd team on the list will be Morristown East at 5-5 or 4-6

Others with reasonable hope by taking care of their own business with "slight" upsets: Cocke Co. and/or Boone

Hoping several falter or planning on a major upset: Lenoir City

Don't see your 5A team on the list and think they still have a puncher's chance? Tell us who and why.

No offense to the Mavs, but Anderson County won't be favored against Hardin Valley. They are more likely to finish 4-6.

Antioch would be a higher seed mjubh, they are district champions and the other three all play in the same district. Am I missing something?

And you're either predicting South-Doyle to upset Sevier Co. or Cherokee to lose to Cocke Co. If Cocke Co. wins they are in with 5 wins. So you must believe South-Doyle will upset Sevier Co.?

mjuhb,

I know you put some time and thought into these projections and that you have done likewise in the past, however I must disagree on another of your points. The TSSAA asigns quad projections to show us what they are thinking. For the first 2 weeks they have assigned Knox West to quad 1 and Powell to quad 2. I can see the teams that are last in after week 10 shuffling the quads sightly across the state, but in no way will that affect the higher seeds and how they plan on distributing them. Do you know something the rest of us don't or are you really not paying attention? I'm not picking on you, I'm just curious about your logic. I've already pointed out that you are wrong about Antioch's seeding but you didn't respond.

I am almost positive that last season Powell ended up in Quad 1. It will just depend on how it all plays out at the bottom of the list of teams that make the play-offs. Powell is one of the teams that could end up in either Quad 1 or Quad 2. They would most likely be the next team pulled into Quad 1 if one of those teams get bumped out of the play-off picture. That should also mean that Knox West would be in Quad 1 as well since they are located closer to the NET teams than Powell is.

You do realize that S-D already has 5 wins don't you? I don't think they will upset SC but they might be a favorite to win over Jefferson Co........Either way they probably are already in with 5 wins, but who knows? Guess anything could happen. :popcorneater:

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
