Alcoa @ CAK

Good win tonight CAK. It's too bad that this had to happen when CAK and Alcoa didn't have some of their best teams in the recent past. Alcoa has four losses on the season, and CAK lost two games one of which was to 1A GCA. This could have been an instant classic, but the fact that both of these teams are definitely down this year takes away from the greatness of this event.

First, hats off to Alcoa for never giving up. They hung in and played hard right till the very end. Oggs and Hamrick are great athletes and those who follow HS football closely know that the Alcoa will be a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs.

For the Warriors, fantastic win tonight against a great opponent. There was a lot to be impressed with, but there were several things that stood out. On a night where passing the ball was tough, CAK cranked up the running attack. #32 ran with strength, vision, and attitude. Bottom line, when it counted, when it was needed, CAK played power football. Defensively, the Warriors had a very good game plan to contain the Alcoa attack. I haven't had a chance to watch the game replay yet, but #11 at safety, and #'s 18, 22, and 37 stood out.

Congratulations on a district title in a district where winning that title means a good chance to make a run in the playoffs.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
