I hope we can make it there. We have some teams to beat. It would be good to play U.C. or Lake County again.

 

 

IMO SP will play for Gold against Huntingdon or UC....realize there are Middle Tn teams that may derail either but ima sticking with these 2 West teams

WHEWW BABY!!! HELLLO!! Those 85 and 86 teams knew how to do something some of these last few teams failed to..... HIT SOMEBODY!!! HELLOO! Lots of great teams in the past and all could play with these boys. Spread offenses have changed the game but you see the teams that have given our pirates the most problems havent you? Good POWER running teams that ran it right at us. Thats ok though thats why the coaches get paid to adapt to our talent and use what we have the best way. THIS YEARS BOYS so far are getting back to a more power running team again! JUST GOTTA GET THERE MIND RIGHT!!! ONE MORE TIME!! ONE MORE TIME!! ITS ALMOST THAT TIME AGAIN!!!

This last few years SP has not played anywhere close to the same level of competition in 1A that they played in the past (BGA,DCA,TC,FRA,CPA,BOYD)

Semi-Finals-94,99. State champs 93,97,98

 

BGA Quarters-94, Semi-Finals-96, Champs-95,(Moved up and won it in 97,98)

DCA - 93,94,95 All unbelievable teams put out by SP until finally breaking streak and winning it in 96, Runner Up in 2003, Champs again in 04

 

CPA 97,98,99 Quarters put out by TC, 2000&2002 State Champs

Im not here to argue but the records say otherwise. Maybe you should research more. Pure speculation as to who would win. Nobody knows or really cares but competition isn't the same in the East

Youngun you have lost your mind. Those privates were in their prime back in the 90s. There is no doubt about it. 1A was tougher back then.

I'm one of the the old ones........I would like to think that we would beat these younguns......But they would kick our butt all over the field. So stop looking thur those rose colored glasses.......and stop living in the past........its 2012 not 1969 or 1998 or 1999

 

So you are saying that the 1969 state team plus the 1985 and 1986 runnerup teams could not compete today??? That is laughable! I don't think some of the teams the past few years could take the physical punishment that those teams dished out week in and week out. Another note, the teams in the valley now are not as good as they were in the past. No one was guaranteed a win back then every week.

 

When there were 3 classifications, it was much tougher to make it to the state game. I am not trying to take away from the accomplishments of the teams the past few years, but not all of them would have made it there. Look at the 2008 team....loaded but was upended by a Trousdale team that in my opinion was not as talented.....but talent does not win games all the time.

We played defense first and yes it was our JV. There may have been 1 or sophomores playing that are 1st year starters on varsity but needed the experience. Our varsity was the offense that scored.

I know some of them ole 1969 players and most of them could bail hay all day and whup them momma's boy's you got playing now running just 1 play. They didn't lay up in the air condition and play play station and run home to Mamma every time the coach yelled at em. Earholing was a given and always and I mean always the team came first. If the kids had to practice like they did then the Coach would be but behind bars. They didn't baby em with awards and their picture in the paper every time you open one. 11 the made the AllState team not 200 like today. Here are some names of some of them ole boys that the 69 team faced, Eddie Brown/ All American and All pro, Sparky Woods/Quarterback South Carolina and div.1 Head Coach, Jay Bonds/ Louisville RB, Anthony Oggs/Memphis RB, Kippy Brown/ Memphis QB who singlehanded beat Auburn and off cord for the d

I'd like for all of the SP faithful to remember Mark Griffith's daughter Kennedy in your prayer's. He is our superintendant of the Marion county school's and this young lady that is 15 now has battled cancer for over three year's and if God doesn't heal her body she only has a few week's to live. My heart goes out to the family.

I do not know Mark Griffith personally but I have kept up with his daughters situation through my daughters and I hope everyone will keep her in your prayers and hug your family a little tighter today.
