WCP, The issue with the receiver you are talking about had to do with his attitude more than anything else. Late for practices, doing what he wanted to do, lack of effort on the field and off, running the wrong routes; talking back to coaches and his bad  attitude.  He is / was a great talent but coaches and former NFL players couldn't get through to him. ( He was shot earlier this year; I hope he has  recovered. )

There was game in which he played poorly; with very little effort. Then got upset when he found out there were scouts there ( that RP asked to come to game ) to watch him. He was furious at the end of the game because no one told him about the scouts being there before the game. He  made the comment after the game that " I would have played hard if I knew there were scouts here to see me. "

He was all about himself and what he wanted. That was his down fall; not RP. Again, you need to get your stories straight.

You didn't give us an update on how your son played for Ensworth Friday ? Oh; and you keep forgetting us to tell us what number he is. You said he was a running back last year for the freshman MJ team.

For folks that don't know Roger Perry, he was from the folks I know that played for him, A DISCIPLINARIAN. Trouble is, we are living in a culture that does not want any discipline. He takes his job serious and some folks don't believe high school football should be that serious. Proofs in the pudding at Westmoreland, Portland, and now MJ. Only thing I fault him for was going to Portland which was Westmorelands biggest rivalry. I hated to see that. As far as long haired hippies, we don't take too kindly to those up here where he comes from either.

Postman; I couldn't agree with you more. Those kids that don't have a problem with discipline thrive and those that don't like discipline struggle with both Roger and Trey Perry. Some may not like the rules that the coaching staff have set; but they apply to everyone with no exceptions. There are no grey areas. I feel very fortunate to have my son playing for them.

Seems we have forgotten about the little red hen story these days. The work and discipline have got to be there to enjoy the fruits that they bare.

So you say bk, maybe you should take off the blinders, your stories are wrong. It's easy to blame the kid. I know more about the program than you think. What was your last d1 talent? Or you saying that mj is not really that good?

Just because you have D 1 talent doesn't make you a good team. How much D1 talent does Maryville put out every year? Central has D1 talent and they only had one play vs MJ.

My story is exactly correct. Unless you  are saying that the young man's parents and godfather are liars.

How about looking at how many college prospects a team might have. Very few teams have D1 talent. Look at Murphy Fair's site and there are plenty of college prospects listed for MJ according to him. ( I believe there were 13 ) Not saying that Murphy is exact on everyone and there are some that are missed.

And if it's the grades, maybe mj guidance and teachers should be ashamed of not preparing the student. Instead of 7am practice and 1st block film study, maybe the admin should teach instead of worrying about what the kid can do for rp and not what rp can do for the kid.

How about putting the responsibility and accountability for a person's education on the student athlete were it belongs instead of pointing the finger at others. That's the problem with society today; it is always some one else's fault.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
