Oakland v. Blackman

I watched some of the film on OHS And SHS and looked like to me that Siegel just didnt get started on the right foot.  Seemed like they didnt have the hurry up going for them early and ended up playing from behind early in the game.

For Blackman to win, they first have to protect the ball.  Three lost fumbles when you have momentum will not get it done.  I expect the field is going to be wet this Friday.  If so, I would expect to see turnovers related to the wet conditions.   a plus 1 in the turnover department may not matter but a plus 2 with these two teams would probably decide the game.

Blackman needs to open up and give Jennings some high percentage passing plays to work with.  Seems like Blackman is always looking deep...even when the hitch and slant routes are wide open.  If Blackman can get some completions here, their chances of winning improve greatly.

Defense has to show up again.  Holding Oakland to 9 points last time was a great effort and I expect that if they can hold Oakland to 2 scores again, it could end up being a great night back at Blaze Drive.

Kick off coverage has to improve.  Stay in your lane and keep your speed guys at three-quarter speed until the return develops.

Either way, both teams are gonna have their hands full Friday night.  It should be another great game.

Lot of blather and not much content on game.  Oakland's strength is its line.  At least three of the players (Jones, Yates, and Barrett) will be playing on Saturdays at the D1 level (UT, Mercer and Mercer).  Oakland gets the nod on this one.  As for quarterback, Jennings will probably also be playing on Saturdays at the D1 level (Vandy and Ohio State are recruiting him).  If he plays to his potential, Blackman gets the nod at QB.  However, if he holds the ball like a loaf of bread or throws into coverage like last game, the stability of quarterback at Oakland wins.  Both teams have strong running games.  Even.  Emmanuel Smith of Oakland (plays WR and S) will be playing on Saturdays next year for Vandy.  A whole lot of talent on both teams.  If someone claims they know who will win this game, they are smoking something.  If one teams turns the ball over a few times, they win.  Oakland won last meeting 9-6, but had a missed field goal and extra point (but they also lost their kicker).  Oakland won, but Blackman has revenge factor.  One of the hardest hitting games I have seen.  Coaching is even also as both coaches have at least one ring on their finger.  Any prediction is like an armpit, everybody has one and many stink.  That is why they play the game.  Come Friday for what I do predict will be two teams with a lot of talent.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
