Well folks, by this time tomorrow we will be getting ready to close the book on the 90th season of Pirate football.  Hopefully we can close it with our 6th gold football.  But whichever it is, gold or silver, this team needs to be commended for coming together to make a run for it all.  2 weeks into the season most of our own fans were writing the team off for one reason or another.  What a difference 3 months make.  As Pirate fans we may not agree on all things but we can all agree on one thing.  In 90 seasons with 638 wins and an 11th state championship appearance - it's great to be a Pirate.

 

By the way, those 638 wins has SP in the top 10 in wins in Tennessee. 

And 5 golden footballs puts SP in a tie for 5th in number of state championships since the playoff era began.  A win will move them into sole position of 5th and bump 4 other schools down to 6th.  The only schools ahead are Maryville, Alcoa, Brentwood Academy, and Trousdale County in terms of championships won since the playoff era began in 1969. 

 

Good luck to both teams tomorrow and everyone be safe travelling to the game.

Nohope, what kind of mess is this?  I agree with OP and nohope.  This is a durn discussion board and we cant even talk about stuff that might offend someone a little bit.  What kind of mess is this?    Let me ask you a question.  Why did that durn Childress man let that Zieglar man decide the punishment?  Im glad they did not shut the durn program down, but now this could give other coaches that might try something to get an advantage on another team to do so since the penalty is not that harsh.  I know the Marion boys had nothing to do with this mess, but they all knew there was a college man out there running the ball that was not on their team.   You think im joking but im not.

It seems like we (SP fans) are the only ones who never think the current team is as good as some of the past championship caliber teams we have had. All other teams we play seem to feel the current year's team is better than what they had previously. Not sure why that is. Just an observation.
