Govman,

If action isn't taken quickly heritage will pass us by. I like Ridge, as a person too, but it's clear to me that something needs to be done. Maybe it's a case of him not having the right assistant coaches and if that's the case they need to get behind him and give him the help he needs.

This program started losing long before the current coach showed up and they will be losing after he leaves.

I'm not sure Vince Lombardi could turn this group around in under 5 years.

I disagree. Meadows was here for just a few years and had us at a level where we were legitimate contenders and then we fell of the map as soon as he left. Edited by Governors91

FBE ... "IF" we are looking for a new head coach--or if something is in the works--it will be a total surprise to me.  Personally I'm a big fan of Coach Ridge.

And as I often like to remind folks, Heritage has been "bad" a lot longer than WB has!   I've never thought the hole we had to dig ourselves out of was near as deep as the job Coach Hammontree faces at Heritage.  But with each passing season ...

I won't air what I know on here....but don't let anything be a surprise. Your neighbor has my cell number, give me a call sometime.

From what I heard today, there is a long list of Coaches that WB are interested in. And so far the answers have been no.

Same ol story for some of the guys. For example: Maryville city teaching job plus assistant coach supplement is greater than county teaching job with head coach pay. Money talks!!

Jake, my neighbor? I don't have a neighbor who even has ever watch a HS Game the past 40 years! You don't know me sir. I do wish WB and HHS better success in the future. It may take money but me thinks it will take more of a salesman than a coach. The schools need someone to get the student body to buy into supporting the program. Both schools have enough athletes that need to get on the field and out of the stands. That will take a salesman.

I have to disagree with you. Just from looking at some of the kids I've seen walking around at heritage ball games, all the athletes are on the field or court. There's just a bunch of toothpicks and fat boys in the school. The culture of the student body in Blount county doesn't value academic or athletic success; it values riding around in a truck drinking beer and smoking pot. This of course isn't everyone, but at least a large portion of them. A majority of the households in Blount county that value things such as academics and athletics, who have the money, send their kids , understandably, to city school systems or private schools. So who ever the head coaches are, they not only have to change the culture of a program, but the culture of an entire county.

Go back a page and look...I believe I was responding to Govman, not you.

I think a bull's-eye was scored with this post. Unfortunately the problem is not unique to Blount county.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
