Did the TSSAA do the right thing in disqualify Riverdale and Smyrna from

it's simpler than that.  Currently the 1-seed and 3-seed are sent to one side of the bracket and the 2-seed and 4-seed to the other side of the bracket.

Just send the winner of the 3-seed vs 4-seed to the opposite side of the bracket from the number 1 seed, and then both teams are motivated to win.

keep in mind though, that in the regional tournament, the 2/4 seeds are matched up against 1/3 seeds from the other district, and vice-versa.  In every instance, in order to advance, you still have to beat a 1-seed and/or a 2-seed from one of the two districts represented in the region.

In reference to it happening before, a boys team out of Chattanooga was accused of losing intentionally, although not nearly so blatently.  As region runner-up, they came to Murfreesboro and beat a pretty good Oakland team, and advanced to the state tournament.

Your solution does not work.  If you put the 3 and the 4 on one side of the bracket versus the opposite 1 and 2, then you could end up with the 1 and 2 from the same district playing in the semis.  You don't want that.  You want the potential of the 1 and the 2 from the same district playing in the region finals if they win out.

Ive seen way too many comments saying the coaches cheated the girls or that people feel bad for the girls. Folks, Ive seen a different video that shows just a little bit more action. A player dribbling the ball at chest level that absolutely intentionally walks backwards across the center court line for an over the back call is horrendous. The gal at the free throw line made absolutely no effort in making those free throws. These girls bought into this. It was sickening to watch as a fan. I say the TSSAA did the right thing in doing what they did. They should take it a step farther and force both schools to reimburse the hosting schools of Lawrence Co and Tullahoma the lost gate money from a regional game plus lost concession stand money. And I do not feel sorry for the girls that participated as they were just as guilty for buying into playing that way.

To those of you pointing fingers at "the system":

It's hindsight if it never happened before.

Happens in baseball every Wednesday of region finals every year.  The non elimination seed game.

Happens in basketball too.  Just not so blatantly.  It's easy:

1.  Take a look at the bracket and see who you're going to play win or lose

2.  Take steps to play the team with the most favorable matchup for your team.

In baseball, you just throw off.  Send in your #4 or #5 pitcher that never saw a district inning.  See how he fares.  Save your #1 or #2 for the elimination game in the next round.

In basketball, you have to miss free throws, play JV players and otherwise limit your opportunities to win.

This isn't the first time this has happened.  This is just the most obvious.

All this knee jerk reaction to this is stupid. There is no need to change format. There is no need to fire the coaches. Making them forfeit is punishment enough. Like I said before it's not the first time. I don't condone losing on purpose. If it is this obvious again...make them forfeit again. It is a slippery slope though.
