Kind on an old post to quote but thought I'd toss my 2 cents in. Offensively we lose 3 seniors, all linemen & a part time QB for a fourth (he split time until he broke his hand against coalfield last season). We return 4 juniors, 2 sophomores and a freshman from the starting offensive lineup with the QB still being a race to see who is the starter. Defensively lose 4 seniors. 1 lineman, 2 LB's & a corner. Returning 6 juniors and a sophomore from the defensive lineup. This years team should be pretty tough if we can plug a few holes. I'm not crowning them world beaters by any stretch. Just another hard nosed bunch of Indians with potential.

Looking around Knoxville, I'd say Greenback will be the toughest out. With a couple of studs coming in, they should be tough to beat. Hopefully, Coach Lyles will have a signal caller that can throw an accurate forward pass this season. #7 was a stud on D, but wasn't a true QB. Coalfield will contend. Their QB is an incredible athlete and they have a stud RB back as a SR. Oneida will be good, stepping down in classification. Lambert has to find a way to score some points. Defense is great, but if they get behind, it's tough for them to recover and catch up. Would benefit from a couple of different formations on offense. They have the players to compete, just need a little variety. Then again, if they get the T formation running downhill, they're tough to stop. HUGE FB is a load. Might be the biggest FB/RB in 1A. If not, he runs like the biggest. Those 3 are in the same Region, if I'm not mistaken.

Sure glad the dead period is over!!!!! A lot of teams are gearing up to compete in 7 on 7s. Greenback will be participating at Maryville College Sat. July 11, @ Lenoir City Wed. July 15, @ UTC Sat. July 18. More to come after that. Scrimmages @ Polk County July 31 and vs. Pigeon Forge @ Greenback August 7. We should be very balanced this year. Multiple weapons and an open playbook to put the ball in the end zone. And yes GCAPride we have a true QB this year. Will and can throw down field or anywhere else they leave open. Been there all along just biding his time and paying his dues to the upper class men. Teams will face many GB players they haven't seen before which keeps an element of surprise and one of what will they do with that ability. Coach Lyles and staff really seem to know how to use what they have regardless of anything. It is refreshing!

Good to hear LadyKee. I'm a Coach Lyles fan, glad he's bringing a fresh perspective to things down there. You guys have ALL the tools, hope this is a special year for you guys. Best of luck, I'll see you guys Saturday at Maryville College.

Yeah a halfback pass is a trick play in these parts, heck any pass is a trick play around here :roflol: you're spot on though, when we meet a GCA or similar caliber team we struggle to score many points. Equally hard to hold a high caliber team to < 21 to allow your ball control style to grind it out.

I am very excited to see Chic's offense again not to mention the new Defense.GB should have a really good yr if everything falls into place. The region we are in along with a very tough out of region schedule will show us just how good this team can be.

Yeah I read the article someone pointed out:

Returning Starters on Offense/Defense-8/7

(Key Returnees): Nate Bowling (RB/DB, Sr.), Andrew Flint (TE/DL, Sr.), Cage West (WR/DB, Sr.), Isaiah Byrge (OL /DL, Sr.), Dalton Chambers (RB/LB, Sr.), Zack King (FB/DE, Sr.), Jake Lawson (FB/LB, Jr.), Nash Lay (P, Jr.), Logan Marlow (FS, Jr.) Dawson May (OL, Jr.), Preston Swindell (OL/DL, Sr.) Nick Capley (RB/DB, Jr.)

Key Losses- Jed Newport (RB/DB), Jacob Lambert (QB/LB), Tyler Swindell (OL/DL), Matt Williams (LB), Tyler Henry (OL/DE), Jacob Adams (RB/DB), Bryce Couch (K), Matt Slaven (K), Tanner Sexton (WR/FS), Kevin Sammons (QB)

Looks as though they have some good returning players, at least in the backfield. QB will be a key starting position. The big questions are at the positions like you said that need to be filled. Let me know when/where they scrimmage, I'd like to see them this pre-season if possible. :)

Upcoming scrimmages / jamborees:

7-31-15 at TTU 5 way scrimmage with Oneida, Jackson County, White House-Heritage, Livingston (I hear they're supposed to be pretty dang good this year) and Rockwood.

8-7-15 York scrimmage at Oneida

8-14-15 Jamboree at Oakdale, not sure who all is supposed to be there.

I was told all should start around 6:00 PM.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
