Like Governors91 already said the players at Maryville dont have a major talent advantage but they do have a different CULTURE than most schools in ET. Everyone time they walk on the field they play like they know they are going to win. They are a COMPLETE TEAM! They dont make mistakes because they have been properly coached since they were 5 years old and already know the expectations to be a Rebel. Ive coached against them and have seen them play mutiple times.

OR2 may know better, but I think this upcoming senior class was not scored on when they were 5 years old. It was cool watching those little'uns run that spread offense.

Do you guys think Maryville could've rung off the state titles like they have the past 15 years in the old 3 class format? I think they probably would've still been right there. Not sure if they would've won as many though. Thoughts?

Don't think they would have during the 2000-2009 period but I think they would have all the titles from 2010-2014 that they played for. There were two or three times if not four that had it been 3 classes during the 2000-2009 period it would have been just to tough and one of those reasons would be because Maryville would have been in AAA and I'm not sure they could have played up to that especially in the early 2000's.

Between that one and the 2009 team. 2009 team had better defense. 2010 was a little better offensively.

The 2009 team was great defensively. The Robinsons were great players. Offensively that team was limited in the passing game but Toney had the greatest year ever by a rusher TD wise in the state's history.

The 2010 team was good defensively but not nearly as dominant. Maryville, CAK, and Goodpasture put up some yards on them. Offensively you may never find a team that was as good as that one. They had a big time receiver in Isom. They had a great core of backs with a three headed monster of Hambrick, Warren, and Tyson. Tallent was a great leader at QB and Safety.

I personally don't think that the 2009 team could have kept up in a shootout with the 2010 team. The 2010 team was explosive offensively.

In 2002,2005 and 2006 I would like Maryville's chances against anyone. 2002 team had injuries that would have devastated most teams. They lost Alex Rouse before the season started. Anyone that watched him in preseason saw how great he would have been. After the knee injury he was never the same. A lot of starters missed a lot of games. Against a very good Central team that year Maryville was missing 5 starters. Maryville still won.

    • Yeah, but if he goes to Science Hill they are guaranteed at least a win over Kingsport and that's basically the NET Superbowl
    • I expect Sevier County might be pretty good, perhaps Mo West as well.     But I don't see either of them getting out of round 2.          The rest of the region gets smoked in round 1.            Except for those once-in-a-blue-moon anomaly years the NET big schools are pretty much the same every season.
    • Wanted to see if all of you would lift up Kyle James family in prayer. Kyle was one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of Soddy Daisy and as some of you know he lost his house a few weeks ago and now his family and friends mourns his passing. Not sure if any of you were around in early 2000’s when Kyle was wrestling at Soddy, but he was a 3 time state champ and a Fargo AA along with going to Colorado to train to make the Olympic team. That goal was never reached due to medical issues, but he was an amazing wrestler and his family is as good as gold. If you were around at that time and have any pictures of Kyle, please go onto Alexy Winesburgh FB page and post. Thanks, Doug Benton
    • My opinion the 8 teams will be-  Greenback, Wartburg, Gordonsville, Jo Byrns, Eagleville, Bruceton, Dresden, and South Fulton. Gordonsviile is probably the favorite but I wont say it will be an easy road. With the right draw any of the 8 could win it.
    • I understand Gibson Co. will be announced tomorrow with a familiar name. Not sure about So. Gibson.
