yes it was getting pretty boring had to shake things up a bit lol

I'm with ya. Been on here too long and have no invested interest since mTp is out so cage not rattled yet rather just trying to explain a bit what I meant by that post you pulled up.... All good.

Being in the Bracket with you guys now has me taking the time to follow Region 3 opponents around more now learning the teams I have not been following, so you Pirates are just gonna have to put up with me now.😆...:thumb:

On-eye-willy...

SP lost 21-62 Marion Co.

SP lost 12-28 B. Buchanan

SP did not come close as the scoreboard says. FRA could play with those caliber teams in my opinion. And I stand by it. FRA went undefeated in Div. 2 until last night losing a tough one to USJ 17-24.... The rest of SP's schedule with Region 3 was crap. In post season play CA destroyed 2 teams out of Region 3 allowing only 6 points combined (that came against the CA jv) and the 2 teams out of Region 4 that SP faced hung a combined 41 points on SP starters.

It was earlier in the season for SP and it appears the line play has gotten adjusted since then and SP is playing better ball as of now.

Fayetteville beat mTp by 1 point back in the season while mTp was playing a lot better ball. I expected more from Fayetteville last week considering they played well against mTp and CA but they didnt... SP beat mTp and Fayetteville about the same. Considering the way mTp had been playing as of late that speaks more against Fayetteville than speaking more for SP.

I never once stated mTp nor Fayetteville would beat SP. I stated "SP should like their chances against mTp" and I only stated that "I liked Fayetteville's chances" and thought they could play with SP.... mTp didn't in the end and I stated that my Tigers wouldn't privately before game time at work to some friends.

I am stating this week CA by 7 points... Ain't gonna be my first time to eat crow being wrong if CA loses.

.

Now, I know you are smart enough to know that you can't compare scores in a season. All sports are about matchups. Teams improve or get worse throughout the year. So when you combine those two things, it should show you comparing scores is foolish. Yes, region 3 was bad except for us. But we could say the same for your region cause we have possum stomped two of your teams and Whitwell beat another. True?

Finally someone who says it like it is!The bottom line is Pitt is just plain better and getting better every game.Looks like whoever makes the Semi's is going to be a great game!

New to the boards here. Couldn't sit here anymore and read this stuff without rattling some cages myself. Sp started out slow this year with 2 larger 3a schools I believe and played with them for the most part. As the year progressed so did this team. This is a smaller squad than we have had in the recent past and with only 3 seniors. These kids have alot of determination and heart. They have played bigger schools and the turnout for a few of the games were expected. As for comparing scores you can't. Every team plays different week to week. With that said sp is firing on all cylinders and I don't think they will be stopped this week. Looks like to me region 4 is just as week as region 3. Fayettevilles best game was with Columbia academy. Mount Pleasant best looking game was with Fayetteville and Columbia academys with franklin road academy. I'm ready for some ear holing and cage rattling this week. For the past 2 weeks these guys have said we would get beat and sp murdered mtp and Fayetteville. It's time to send the bulldogs home with their tails between their legs and tell them to go recruit some more kids for next year.

Jeepers creepers.....the use of cage rattling & earholing terms out the gate is quite impressive Youngon! LOPAO.....figure Yous been taking notes & paying attention to the teachers, yep...recon so

I would like to know where we stack up against CA from a copper basin fan standpoint. Also would like to hear from Coach Helton.

Pirate Mike,

Both teams are very good in their own way. Skill positions? SP has more of them with speed. If SP can get to the edge, they should be ok, but the CA Defense takes great pursuit angles and they have very good technique and do their job. They also have a good rotation on their D Line to keep their guys fresh. Each week is different for each team. I will tell you that #1 for CA is the BEST WR I have coached against since Javon Williams at Chandler High School (of course, his QB was Brett Hundley so the ball was usually on the mark). The Thompson kid makes plays and unless you have a player with the same height, speed and physical control of his body, he will make plays. He is a very dangerous return specialist also. CA has no weaknesses as they play fundamentally sound across the board on both sides of the ball. Don't buy into the hype that they are contact averse. Their players do not shy from contact.

Coaching-wise, Coach Grider has a very experienced solid staff and it shows. They have gotten better each week this year and the speed they showed against MtP is going to be their greatest asset. If SP can throw the ball effectively against CA, it will help, but they have a good pass defense. Keep in mind, if you do throw it, make sure it isn't to #1's side. He can cover ground fast, has great reactions, and a large wingspan. SP has an expectation to win and that is something that's often overlooked because it has nothing to do with X's and O's and everything to do with mindset. CA has a staff that is well-prepared and their players communicate well on Defense.

Special Teams, both teams are dangerous, but CA has a definite advantage with their Kicker #8. He is a weapon and can kick it into the end zone every single time if he wants to. He's also a weapon on offense and can return the ball.

We were able to move the ball between the tackles against SP in the first half. We were not able to move the ball against CA between the tackles in either contest. We had one drive against CA's first team Defense in the first game that we were able to move the ball with our younger backs out of our Fly Series, but it ended around their 20 yard line. We made too many mistakes against CA in both games. They are a very good team. SP is a very good team. It should be a great game if both teams are firing on all cylinders. If SP can stop #1, they will win. That's not to say CA doesn't have other productive personnel, but rather how much of a weapon #1 is. I think the winner of this game goes to Cookeville. I don't think Harriman can match up with either one of them (unless they got new impact players this year that they didn't have on their roster last year). Harriman has some tough kids, but their style of play can't match up to CA or SP. Not sure about Greenback, but looking at their game against Oneida (and the score of the Oneida vs. Harriman game) I don't think Greenback will beat either one.  1-A SP and CA have a lot. Also, keep in mind CA will have 50+ on the sideline if depth becomes a factor and as many teams that they've blown out this year, those younger kids have gotten significant playing time throughout the season which should pay dividends in the playoffs.

Not saying you don't have valid points, be nice If I thought the feeling was mutual..... But who cares.

Last year in District 11 & 12 (Region 6) thread wildcatalumni started, we went all year last season making our picks on who would win and who wouldn't.... Well we all stuck our necks and coachT reputations out there on the line; some quit picking about game 4 cause they were losing badly and I wound up in 1st place at the end of the year 51-7.... My secret? Comparing teams score on their schedules mixed in with how they've been playing the game before.

Works for me, may not work for other's.

Smart?.?.?.... I guess it's like "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". A tool in the hands of a dummy who can't use it *IS* useless, but in the hands of someone who knows how to use it?... A Great Asset.

The golden rule always stands though.... "Anything can happen on a Friday night".

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
