Pirates allowed 35 points from both Whitwell (14 points) and Copper Basin (21 points). In 2 regular season games.

Bulldogs allowed 30 points from the same 2 teams but in 3 games by playing Whitwell twice, once in regular season play (24 points) and once in post season (6 points). Copper Basin post season (0 points).

Both S.P. and C.A. allowed Fayetteville to put 23 points on the board.... CA regular season, SP post season.

Who will win the defensive battle?

Numbers says CA.

We all know both teams have great offenses.

Which is going to stop the other is the question of the week?

.

Bigby, like you I will be pulling for ca as both our teams played them for many years and your team still does, but sp seems to be peaking right now and my feeling is they will beat ca this week. Edited by wildcat89

Nothing wrong with a little honesty... But I like CA's odds and am sticking with them by 7.

Might be that CA has faced really sucky teams the past few weeks but CA is firing on all 11 cylinders and even their backups (JV) ain't looking bad. CA'S defense has surprised me the past couple of games that I have watched them play. They play their assignments well. At first I stated CA's defense was questionable and their weakest link. I may have been wrong on that statement... But SP is too good not to score.

He has, i agree. If he wasnt back, their would likely be a train wreck, players leaving and the program would be in bad shape imo, especially without a change.

LLP what kind of mess is this? It wouldnt to long ago you said Grider wasnt a good coach. I garuntee you Grider makes me real mad sometimes and charges to much but he aint a bad coach. You think im joking but im not.

I WILL NOT be pulling for CA.

I think I read where Fville scored once on freshmen so I think the numbers are off.

I think SP can win this one by 21 or more. I don't think CA defense is good enough to stop them and SP can stop the run and will find a way to slow the pass game down enough to win.

Old Pirate says.... The Captain's biggest asset iopo is the youngons know he will help them anyway possible, but he will not allow the team's commitment & expectations be jeopardized by those who are not willing to be accountable. Recon, ole professor taught coach Don & he taught Vic, accountability is everything, leastways it should be! Even LLP is going to be held accountable, remember, repentance is healing.

I almost bet that it's going to be said between the Whitwell and Copper Basin scores, all those points were scored on JV squads on both teams in the 4 qtr.

If both teams had starters in during the Fayetteville games.

That leaves both teams even - if what stated above is true - dead even on defense at giving up the same points as far as the starting squads.

It is hard at times to judge this as those points do come in late in the 4th qtr.

But the question still remains the same....

"Who has the better defense?"

I am taking coach P defense for the Pirates. The man was a successful 10 win a year head coach at a 4a Alabama high school and really knows how to get these guys going and draw x and os. The thing I noticed last night was Fayetteville didn't know how to react to getting hit hard. Several pancakes from our little tiny offensive line were happening, along with some ear holing on defense made for some players getting off the ground really slow and frustrations to set in. I agree that it's going to be a battle. I even think it will be a coin flip. The only advantage Columbia Academy has in my opinion is with their Mr. Football kicker, and SP advantage goes to their coaching staff. One of the best. I look forward to a great game! SP is peaking at the right time! Edited by powerp

Well, CA's defense has pitched 2 shutouts in the last 2 games.  That seems to be a good start.

**Whitwell score came off a fumble recovery for a TD against JV.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
