Pirate Mike if I may ask you or anyone else that's affiliated with the Orange and Black. While I was at Cookeville this past weekend I talked to one of those people wearing purple and he was telling me and a couple others that the purple team was getting a lot of players that usually go to South Pitt.He was pretty adamant about it.I don't know so I was a little curious about it.Good luck in the off season!

All schools commonly lose a few students to one of the other schools. Several years ago we lost a few, but no one noticed as much because we had a lot of good athletes. Now, we don't have near as many so losing a few to Marion County is felt more than it once was felt.

Lol....if i were grider i would partner up with the lodge, housing authority and whoever else i could to get transfers. Nothing wrong with that. Gone are the days when the pirates ooze talent at every position.

Keep thinking that way. I'm far from a sunshine pumper but Pirates will reload every year for next 5-6 years. Jr high bunch is already compared to my class in 99. Great "Football players" AND athletes. Tons of talent in that 7th grade class and the rich just got richer. 8th grade class is as well. Marion will be good too as long as Ross is around. But unless kids leave SP the Pirares will be VERY good the next several years.

Old Pirate will gladly answer this question. South Pittsburg has had 2 high schools thru the years. In OP's day, SP High School & McReynolds High School. McReynolds school burnt and consolidation resulted. Now Richard Hardy is another k-12 school 1 1/2 miles away. Jasper lies in the middle of the county and has routinely got students from both ends of the county and several from Grundy county. Fact is if not for players from SP & Grundy the Warriors would have been terrible in several sports. Going back to the days of K Colquitte, Jasper had several that were not from Jasper and the Colquitte connection with Bridgeport (former head coach) resulted in key talent coming north. A huge disadvantage for SP has been the lack of available suitable building sites that seriously limited new homes. Jasper currently has 2 former SP players coaching football that possibly help pull some north. SP has benefited by some players that lived outside of SP but mostly came thru the little league programs.

Thanks OP and Bass,he made is sound much bigger than this that is why I asked.I figured it was a couple or so,the way he was speaking as if it crippled you all, also acted as if the assistant coach was also helping them draw some away.Thx again.

OP works with a feller connected and he says Jasper recruits dads to coach that have athletic sons in hopes of them becoming Warriors. Beware of fellers that's known to own Rose Colored glasses. You see, the Jasper kinfolkes can't get coaches' sons to be warriors, the head coach doesn't send his son to Jasper! LOPAO, they is aways needing help. The breakroom talk reminded OP, a few years back 6 of the starting 9 baseball players were from SP and during a stretch 3-4 from Grundy made the basketball & baseball programs go. Recon they hire coaches that can pull athletes cause they can't produce enough studs. BTW, that Jasper feller was on target, easy to see they really need SP athletes! Even with the temperary losses, SP reportedly have maintained to very formable. These fellers from down under is often times recruiting too! Edited by OLD PIRATE

Oh, i am very aware of that seventh grade group, i know they will be the next great group of pirates. I have said that for years, no doubt about it.

He is right about that group. The rich is getting richer within that class from what I was told. That us a good group, but they are still years away from contributing at the HS level. We've got a lot of work to do in the present before we worry about those kids coming up.

    • No reasonable lawyer would take up this case. I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. I will be waiting.  https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39431892/judge-drops-ole-miss-player-lawsuit-lane-kiffin
    • Yes Justin Cruse was named head coach
    • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
