Section 17. Athletic recruiting is prohibited. Athletic recruiting is the use of influence on a student or the parents or guardians of a student, by any person(s) directly or indirectly associated with the school, to secure or retain a student for athletic purposes. This comes from Section 17 of TSSAA handbook. If a parent seeks a school initially a coach can talk with student. A coach can not make first contact. Even in an open enrollment school district the coach can not make first ,initial, contact. Initial contact by coach is violation of recruiting. If a school is in his feeder progression he can talk with those students any time. Coaches really have no business at other school contests unless a feeder school of his is involved. And just because this has become the nature does not make it right. This has gotten way out of control.

I can't say what is going in Metro Nashville, but I will in all the cases that I have been aware of in most cases Coaches feeder was one of the participating schools. I agree with you as far as recruiting and it being out of control. But it has and never will change. Those are just words on paper......like a J-Walking law.

Back in the 70's, 80's & 90's all MNPS  offered one class that the other schools did not offer.  That way a student that was zone to Hillwood could go to McGavock so long as the provided their own transportation.  I feel confident that nothing has changed.  It should be easier to recruit for athletics in MNPS than at the elite private schools.  With MNPS you do not have to file for financial aid and pay any money, take any entrance exam, your books are free, you get a free hot breakfast, free hot lunch and if the school is in your zone you also get free transportation.  Everything is basically free!

I think the top 4 teams will be the only ones to advance to the second round of the playoffs ....how does East Nashville continue to under achieve ? Page at Hillwood still doesn't great job on my eyes with what he deals with .and mcgavock is still a subpar team after seeing what I saw yesterday vs CR , .. I'm really at a loss for words at what's happening at Overton... Wil there be any openings in metro after this season ?

Let's remember that Kurt Page (Hillwood) is not your average MNPS football coach.  He won a state championship at Father Ryan and has also coached and done well in Houston, TX and Georgia.  Page is doing more with less talent than most every coach in Middle Tennessee and should be a the top of any schools wish list looking for a head coach.

    • West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.
    • I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.
    • I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!
    • Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
    • Looks like Trent Noah was released from his NLI at South Carolina with intent to pursue playing closer to home. Kentucky and Louisville both reported to be in the mix for him now.
