What's going on at Knoxville Grace?

I had a great time win or lose the other night. I always love to take a few pictures so I never forget some of the great places I've been to. I miss the day's when Maryville was a smaller school and played teams like Kingston, Rockwood, Oliver Springs, Loudon and many others. Going to a game like that was like going back in time when we played Rockwood when the Chapman boy's were there.5alyxv.jpg

Barney make the SHORT trip to GB Thursday, you won't be dissapointed!

I don't think Barney goes to any Maryville games anymore period. Ram Tough

I went to the Science Hill game and watched the Alcoa and Heritage game on recordings and the Fulton game on TV. I've seen all the highlights of the Bearden and D-B game plus I'm on the phone constantly with friends at the game telling me what's going on. Your only a kid one time and I'm not going to miss any of his games no matter what or I could never forgive myself. But not only that I have enjoyed watching all the others also.

Its obvious ,you've watched some great football over the years. Pretty sharp feller in my book.

Pujo I really hate that I didn't go up to Hampton last year. I'm sure I would have had a great time and if I had went I would have looked you up. People laugh at me and say did you go anywhere this year on vacation and I tell them oh yes I go on at least fifteen to twenty a year except their on Friday Nights and a few on Thursday and a couple on Saturday every once in a while. I turn off the world and enjoy myself for those three or four hours with no interruptions.

At the risk of getting in the middle of some of the petty stuff back and forth, I'll say what I know.

GCA is going Division II. I do think the TSSAA took the cowardly approach instead of just making the decision to split and instead writing rules that forces most privates to choose to go. For instance, GCA offers a slight discount on the re-enrollment fee each year for paying it by a certain date. That could be considered financial assistance now, so it would penalize all families ifthat was eliminated.

I'm not that close to the football program, but I've heard nothing of the rumors in this thread. Pride was right about the 2 buildings (1 of which is totally church funded) and funding. I do know people on the board of the school and there's no way they would allow massive debt to be piling up.

I know this is a football thread. I do wish that all GCA posters and fans would show more humility than some do portray. I really appreciate BarneySox and Raven and their honesty that I've seen. But it does bother me when the entire school and/or church is slammed by people over the actions of a few. I really believe we should be going above and beyond in sportsmanship to be the example, but I also understand that teenagers will be teenagers sometimes, no matter what school they attend.

Being from Hampton, I have a unique perspective. I see how hard it is for a small private like GCA to build a long lasting fan base. It's not like the community schools like a Hampton where generations have went to the same school and still come out and support kids and grandkids.

    • Dyersburg may win back to back to back championships. They are going to be hands down the best 3A team. Plus their District/region/sectionals are not very good. They basically just have to make it to region out of a 5 team district that has a few decent teams. South Gibson will be okay but they graduate their best player and there is nobody in the region 7 or region 8 who is going to compete with them.
    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
    • He was a bruise but Aaron Dykes is HVA’s best RB ever.
