Question is now, would Lane even want the job? He got passed over once before and he has had some health issues lately. Lane is a great man and coach, but I would not be the least surprised if he turns West down this time. He should've had this job 2 years ago and they went elsewhere. Mite he go elsewhere now?

Bold man lol

The real question is, if he is truly interested, is Knox County willing to give him "another" opportunity?

Since Dr. Ding Dong is no longer running the school board anymore keep in mind that Buzz Thomas was a Maryville grad and former football player and still comes to the Maryville games  will be his ticket in the door if he wants.

I don't think there is a chance that Rang comes back to Knox County. There are plenty of opportunities out there, and just about every single one is better than Knox County. Honestly, other than using it as a "springboard," why in the world would a young, proven, up-and-coming coach want to take a coaching gig with KCS these days?

Pretty much. There's just not enough financial incentive to entice a guy like Rang to come back to Knox County, even if he left in good standing. I don't want to get too political, but the same argument could be made for retaining quality KCS teachers. If you can't pay them, you will eventually lose them.

Yes, and I have heard a lot of politics are involved, but I know you would rather not get into that!

If Coach Rang not hired then a mistake. He has a compionship under his belt. He had 3 championships at Maryville as a player. He's single and football junkie. If would be my first choice especially having coach at the program

Is this Derek Rang wanting the job himself? Sounds like it. If Rang got the job he'd be gone in two years if a better job opened up. I want a coach like Lane or Coach Marc Giles who will stay at West and keep the excellence of the program going for a while.

Permanent not temporary is what the next coach needs to be!

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
