Milan's head coach has stepped down according to the Milan Mirror.  Someone will have big shoes to fill.  Will Milan promote from within or go outside bulldog nation and find their next coach?

First of all hats off to Morris, one of the great ones in West TN.

I have heard for several years some of the folks in Milan want Ward from Crockett.  I do NOT see them hiring from the current staff but I have no inside knowledge to base this assumption on.  This job will draw a huge amount of interest.  The coaching carousel has the potential to really start to spin in West TN!

Coach Ward was my first thought when I saw Coach Morris is retiring.  It makes sense to me if they went after Ward!

Ward has long been thought by most to be the heir apparent whenever Morris called it quits...guess we will see.

I hope that this goes nowhere until after the championships are held, for multiple reasons. best for all involved to be patient.

Coach Ward's name has been in the rumor mill for a long time to go to Milan when Coach Morris hangs it up...whoever takes the job will be looking at at least 3 years of loaded talent...word is Nick Saban and Urban Meyer have inquired....not....seriously...what about South Gib's Stidham?... as a Milan fan....I'd take Alcoa's Coach Rankin.....again...not gonna happen...

Besides Ward, what about Swenson, Comer or Bowlin?  Give me some time and I can think of another half dozen.  Milan is one of the most coveted jobs in West Tennessee.

Ward would have to deal with Haywood each year and he knows that. However, Crockett is still a good job where going to Milan, may not make it that much better. Swenson, he is in the perfect situation where he is at. Bowling, he is getting everything he wants. But it’s up to him if he wants to move to Milan or not. I know one guy that should be considered, he is just down the highway. Just down the highway.

Haven't had a chance to comment on this but here's my thought. Coach Mirris you will be missed. You have made such a difference in the lives of young people in Milan. Thanks for all you've done.

I believe there will be an abundance of applicants for this job. An amazing amount of talent coming up and wonderful community support make this a very good situation. Also the coaching supplement is great. But I would like to see someone get this job that will make 2 things a priority (along with winning of course). I want someone who will open up the offense a little more. For years now I could watch a Milan game and tell you what play they were about to run. Very predictable. Also I would like to see someone get hired that will strive for some improvements to Johnnie Hale. Great field house. Great weight room and workout facility. But stadium is beyond old. Yes it is adequate but we aren't keeping up with the Jones'.

Ive heard Ward's name as well but he has had Crockett Co winning for the past several seasons. Would he take the Milan job. And just curious. As an outsider. Does Milan lose any kids to South Gibson now they they are winning ? If so, does that diminish the job somewhat? And if they don't ,would losing Coach Morris maybe change some kids minds that may want to play at South Gibson? Theres also another coach with Milan ties ,Bobby Sharp. Coached his early years under Coach Tucker and his wife is from Milan. Going into the Hall Of Fame this year.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
