I actually enjoy the broadcast William Blount has to offer for their fans that may not attend a game for some reason. I've seen the cameraman get faked out a few times but all in all they do a pretty good job. It takes a good acting job to be on live TV when things are not going well on the field.  If people really want to hear something bad get their radio out and turn on an Alcoa game and listen to to how many times you hear it's another CBBC first down. That would make me mad enough to withdrawal all my money the following Monday and tell them why. You can bet your life the fans of Alcoa were glad to get Diamond Clear and not ever have to listen to that again.

I think they have new announcers this year.

Alcoa games are going to be on the FM Station that carries Jayson Swain this year.

Good as place as any I suppose, but RIP Friendsville Falcons program as it has gone defunct.

Afraid to say it but numbers are way down all over the place because parents will not let their kids play with all the damaging reports that are coming out.  Could have a bad situation on high school football in another two or three years. They might have to do 7 on 7 for the first two years coming up or 6 man football before we have to cross that bridge which is coming up shortly.

You are correct with numbers being down not just in Tennessee but all over the country.  Interesting fact is that schools where the parents have the most education have the lowest participation rates for kids playing football.  I could very well see where men's soccer becomes a fall sport and takes the  place of football as a major sport in 10 years unless something is done to stop the head injuries.

Or parents can do some homework and see that

1. There are no unbiased studies stating that football played high school and below causes long term brain damage,

2. That there's been more effort in making helmets, thus heads, safer in the last 10 years than in the first 100 years the game was played, or

3. Tons of work has been done to teach and promote proper tackling, this lowering possibility of head injuries.

Education doesn't mean you are smart or informed. I know lots of really stupid educated people.

The damage has already been done and parents are not allowing their boy's to participate in football due to head injuries.  As long as you have kids getting concussions due to football injuries the participation rates will continue to decline.  The parents are not going to do any R & D and will allow the media to dictate the agenda.  If a helmet is ever developed that will significantly reduce head injuries you very well could see the participation numbers rise once again.  IMO, the horse has left the barn and it will be extremely difficult to reverse to the trend of kids not playing football.

The 2011 and 2013 teams should have won  minimum of 7 games. Earl Mac, Meadows or Phelps might have won 8 or 9 if you include 1st round of playoffs.

2016 should have won at least 5.

Several parents from those teams will tell you they regret their kids HS football experience was there.

I think now its come to a point that people familiar with the program in the past are very reluctant to send their kid to WB to play FB.  I can only think of 1 person that played FB at WB from 1983-1986 that sent their kid to WB to play FB. 1 starting RB from that era sent his kid to 3 separate high schools to avoid him going there.

When adults do things the wrong way, running from competition, ignoring problems, etc, hard to get kids and community to buy in.

There's no doubt in my mind that the 2011 team could have won 8 or 9 games. They beat Catholic on the road and beat a Lenoir City team that made the 5A quarterfinals. The Govs were also only trailing by a touchdown and driving with a chance to tie the game late against a Sevier County that went 9-1and made the 6A quarterfinals. They only lost 10-7 against Farragut. Aside from a 41-21 loss to Maryville, the only bad loss was a  3-touchdown loss to Jefferson Co. And that was only a day or two after the announcement that WB would have to vacate the Knox Central win, so the Govs came out really flat in that game. That team had all the potential in the world.

    • Why? Low pay. Low budget thanks to the Rotary milking the programs revenue. Foul smell. There are other negative things... Positives: the players and being toward the top of the classification numbers wise.
    • What we have here is an influx of outsiders raining down on the town of Maryville like a swarm of locust trying to change our culture into the same crap they moved away from. I have no issues with anyone coming here but don't bring your politics with you. Most people around here never pay attention to the elections and keep letting the same ole rats and vermin right back in the back door and wonder why things are like they are. The problem at Maryville High is mainly due to letting outsiders get a foothold on control and shove their agenda down everyone's throat. Anyone that leaves there or let's say ranoff are replaced with an outsider with the same mindset. Eventually Maryville High will never be the same as it once was which I'm beginning to believe already but it's only chance of survival are to recruit people that will get in there and reverse the damage that has already happened.
