That's a very good point...Oakland had a TON to replace, and I am honestly surprised with how well they have reloaded. I didn't expect them to be at 13-0 again with a very real chance to run the table. That's a credit to Creasy and his staff (which is one of the best in the entire state). There are a couple of people at Oakland that aren't my favorites, but I love Kevin Creasy and respect the heck out of him.

However, it was also Maryville's second game without the best coach in the history of TN HS football, and they were in adjustment period as well. Also, I don't think it's silly to state that the absence (or lack thereof) of a D1 QB would be a deciding factor in a very close game between two evenly matched teams.

Fair enough. IMO if Maryville wins it will be because of Isaiah Cobb, he is exactly the type of back that can give Oakland problems

"In the three years I've been here, he's the best quarterback we've faced," Oakland coach Kevin Creasy said. "Their backup (Brandon Carnes) did a good job, but that speaks volumes about their program."

We need to work on Cecil a bit, but I'll give him a pass. At least he is doing articles that we don't get in our local paper of record. He also called it Shield Field in one article instead of Shields Stadium/Jim Renfro Field.

I may of done that last week on my show also even though RebelWoman87 schooled me on the history..

Renfro coached from 1943-1955 and won 65% of his games.

Stanley B. (Skeeter) Shields was the mayor of Maryville for 32 years and was the long time PA announcer at the Jim Renfro field.

He was known for sometimes having an open mic. Stars , Barney Sox and some of the others can probably recall some classics.

I remember that Skeeter would call out the jersey number of the player carrying the ball WHILE THE PLAY WAS ONGOING.

Probably didn't know the kid's name but would announce the number.

Thanks.  I was just fixing to ask why yall call it the Skeeter at times.   Guess this answered my question.
