If you don’t mind me asking, what happened with the targeting call? I didn’t even know high schools did that! He was ejected for targeting??

Yes. This isn't the first time either. Back in 2014, I think it was, we had a player ejected in the QF game for targeting. He had to sit out of the semi-final game we played the next week.

The call in the game last night was deemed 'helmet to helmet' and he was ejected.

I’ve watched high school football in Rutherford County for over 20 years and I’ve NEVER seen that called! You guys have had it happen twice in 4 seasons?

I don’t know how they can determine that unless it is absolutely, 100% blatant! That could change an entire defense and even end a season. That’s a new one on me!

I have no reason to troll you. You can’t stand for someone to say another team is better than you. Then you have to resort to name calling and personal attacks. I’ve probably watched more film than all of you combined, but that’s neither here nor there. You can think what you want, but name calling makes you and personal attacks make you sound like a bunch of classless homers.

Go patriots!

They determined it to be blatent in both instances. I can tell in both instances they were bang-bang plays. The refs deemed the receiver as defenseless in each case. In each case the DB was trying to time the contact to dislodge the player from the ball. It happens so fast. If the defender hits the receiver to high it has a possibility to be called targeting. Human nature is self preservation, A receiver will 'get small' and cover up. It happens.

You have to change how you hit a receiver in those instances. Can't hit them in the chest. That will turn into a targeting call if the receiver 'gets small.'

I understand all of these new rules are for safety reasons. Some of them are almost impossible to adhere to though. Especially, in high school. I’m not kidding when I say I’ve NEVER heard of that being called in high school.

Will that keep the young man from playing in the state championship??

Surely not!!!

He's not playing because of it. The same thing happened last time. He's a senior. He had to sit unless an appeal is heard and the call is overturned.

Any player that's ejected carries a 1 game suspension, unless over turned by TSSAA
